Edited by: Beelzbub on 21/07/2004 01:14:43 After growing bored with chasing down small-time NPC pirates I decided to take a little vacation and go exploring. I got a couple nice ships and some skills tucked under my belt AND I survive living in Amamake so I figured I could keep myself from being killed exploring some 0.3 thru 0.0 systems. I jump in my Rifter, fit a 10m Afterburner, a weapon disrupter, and a few small guns for fun and set off to parts unknown. It was a pretty un-eventful trip for the most part. Saw mostly cruiser class ships and everybody was mostly minding their own business thru most 0.3 to 0.1, although the occasional pilot did pop up on my radar marked as dangerous and I steered clear. Couple times I was followed but my Rifter is capable of dang near 2000m/s in a straight line so I lost the followers rather quickly. During visits to astroid belts I encountered a few NPC pirates but nothing extrodinary although I did learn that a rifter with a 10min AB can orbit a NPC pirate cruiser at 1000k and the cruiser can't hit you and I could orbit it and chew it apart with the 3 150 gattling guns! Ya, it took me like 800 rounds, but it was a rush.
I approached a jump gate that lead into 0.0 space, stopped my ship and stared. "Dang, that million dollar clone I got sitting in Abudban is going to get activated for sure if I enter that gate." I thought. "Dang expensive to replace." A quick check of the map showed two pilots in space, with any luck they'll be camping the other gate was the hope. "No guts, no glory" was the last thing I thought as I entered the gate. "Crap, It's this gate the're camping!" was the first thing I thought as I came out the other side. Two battleships with what appeared to be 500 drones apiece orbiting around. Both pilots had all the red bars flashing on the radar. I knew I had only a few seconds before the "courtesy cloak", Thank CCP for that, would d-activate and I'd be toast. So I kick in the AB and head for the gate at full throttle. Soon as my ship de-cloaked and accelerated toward the gate It seemed like the entire 5,976 players online at the time had me locked and were firing on me. My viewscreen had more flashing colors and was so brightly lit with the pirates weapon fire that I had to turn my head to keep from being blinded. I could barely make out the messages my ships AI was sending across the screen. "You have been warp scrambled!", "You're weapons have been disrupted!" and a few others I couldn't make out before I hit the gate. The now quiet space was a welcome change after all that chaos. My shields and armor were completely gone and, I swear, my hull was down to this --> <-- much! On more hit, even from a small laser, would have turned my rifter into spacedust.
Set course back to Amamake. Guess I got a long way to go before I can tred down to those parts again. Back to the momma's tet of Amamake.

Yeah dood that is what 0.0 is like man, but dont get discouraged that happens daily to pilots. Oh btw train up to use micro warp drive and you can make that rifter go over 12k m/s using dual mwd

Yes its true, 0.0 space is THAT fun. No place else i'd rather be, i feel safer in 0.0 then in empire. Great Story by the way, nice little read --------------- |

and of course, if you'd run for a celestial object, and then the other gate, you'd have made it easily
either way, great story, and good luck

You shouldn't have too much trouble in a ship as fast / ugly as the Rifter... I actually was able to warp out of a similar situation once while in my badger 2! They must all have been asleep or ****ing or something, because only 1 dominix bothered shooting me. Although any more than the 2 hits I took would have been enough
To take down my shield. ------------
We come in peace. And tanks. |

Frigates enter warp very quickly. If you'd warped to the next gate or to a planet or something, you'd have made it.
Something to bear in mind next time

Another option would have been to just start moving in a direction away from the gate & hit the afterburner. That would have quickly put you out of their effective range. Once there, just warp away to another warp point. Another suggestion, do not stay at the same warp point for long. Some players are excellent trackers & will hunt you down just for the shear fun of it.
Otherwise, good luck!
