Originally by: blashphemy I can just reinstall Windows in 40 minutes, take 2 hours to install drivers and Windows updates, and take another hour to install essential programs - boom, clean Windows install in a matter of hours, solves most problems well before trying to fix a system would.
You could also do a clean install and then do an image of that harddrive to REALLY save some time... but... that is besides the point of the thread...
edit: you can thank me in isk

I had this issue when the expansion first came out. Then, one day, it disappeared. Haven't had a log-off since.

Dude, I had similar issues with this for almost a year, turned out to be my ISP killing my connection due to "usage caps" which they did not make public. Hence why I no longer use Comcast for my internet connection.
Something else to note here, the Internet has localized issues as more and more people begin to use it's resources up to it's limits. Things fail all the time, you have to learn to just deal with it.
Just look at the large outages over this past Sunday:
http://isc.sans.org/diary.html?storyid=5572&rss
Bad weather was a contributing factor for these folks in the affected states.
Checkout http://www.dslreports.com/ and find your ISP in your local area. If there is a localized issue or recurring issue, chances are other people are talking about it. If they are not, start a thread as many people are active on these forums, including ISP employees. If there is an issue affecting your connection, you will most likely learn about it here.

A simple way to try and figure out if it's your ISP, take your rig to someone else's house - preferably someone with a different ISP - and see if you have the same issue.

Have you tried switching to the alternate port? Sometimes my ISP decides to be stupid and traffic-shape Eve, I switch over to 2600 and everything's peachy again.

Assuming you're sarcastic:
That statement, taken on it's own, puts all blame on EVE and no sane tech would disagree with you.
However:
...when the amount of people affected is roughly 100 out of 250.000 ...people have problems on computer A while computer B works fine in the same house ...people have seen the problem disappear when switching ISP's ...people have seen the problem disappear when switching/flashing/resetting routers ...people have seen the problem disappear after inserting a NIC instead of using the motherboard onboard NIC ...people have seen the problem disappear when reinstalling windows ...etc ...etc
Than the options become more limited and the most logical conclusion becomes:
While people share the same result (disconnection) not everyone has the same problem.
Since there is absolutely no standard in the configurations people have at home all CCP can do is ask people to submit logs and details and hope to squash the occasional bug.

Sorry but I've been online for hours as well with no problem. I've gotten this error message once and that was when my ISP disconnected me.
You might want to start checking your computer & router logs for instances of disconnects.
For example if your ISP has its DHCP license renewal set to very short intervals without letting you keep the same IP address would cause a temporary disconnect that would only last a few seconds and be almost transparent to someone not using an application like a MMO or VPN where you have to be logged in.
Things to help solve this issue:
1) List your ISP and location. If people experiencing this problem are using the same ISP then you have your culprit right there. If you are in the same geographic location you might be getting routed through a network or backbone that could be the source of the issue.
2) Log the time that the disconnects occur, if they are occurring at the same time every day or at regular intervals this also points at your ISP.
3) List your NIC manufacturer, Firmware, and Driver versions. If people (cause this seems to be a small portion of people experiencing this problem) all have the same hardware then that is the likely problem.
Basically all people experiencing this issue need to find out what what else they have in common aside from having EVE installed. This issue could be EVE related or it could be something else entirely. Nothing in what you've indicated points to this being solely EVE related.

Simple solution is actually doing something. Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

Hmmm, over the five years I've been playing I've encountered various periods continual disconnects and all were resolved by myself through various methods.
1) First of all wireless is not really a consistent permanent connection. For web surfing you will almost never notice. For gaming, you may.
2) Network equipment goes bad. Everything from your Ethernet/Built in Wireless to cables to your router/modem can begin to cause intermittent connection issues.
3) Most people's computers are ****ed to death. Let's face it, most of us don't have dedicated gaming rigs, we use our PCs to surf the web, do homework/office work, play lots of games, hosts of multimedia uses and the list goes on and on. We install and uninstall software, we get viruses (well I don't but some people do), we accept BSODs as a way of life instead of isolating hardware issues that only cause more problems (corrupt data)... And on and on it goes. Basically if you're not extremely careful and/or clean wiping your system every six months chances are your machine isn't in optimal shape.
And still the majority of players are not having these problems. Sorry but the fact that the game works for most players is evidence enough that what we're seeing is a bunch of people who have individual issues with their machines/connections. It's plainly obvious, unfortunately. That doesn't mean these people are morons, or that there is an easy fix for them. I've had games I just could not play. I gave up on them because no matter what I did, no matter how many tech support sessions, I couldn't get it to work. The only solution may be a new PC for some people, different ISPs for others and new network equipment for the rest. Not exactly viable for everyone but it is what is. No software will ever work for 100% of the people.

This is your ISP closing the socket because it's idle. I've had this happen with some ISPs in the past.

i've been getting that error a lot and noticed that at the same time my teamspeak and irc disconnect, implying that guess what, all the sockets closed
ie, i'm having router/isp issues and eve just happens to have a new error message for it.

If I don't constantly update my client it will disconnect from the server after anything between 30 seconds and 10 minutes. Pretty much means if I ever need to go afk I need to get safe and log, which to be fair is a sensible idea anyway. It is irritating tho.
