Arcelor Capital's
Market Report
December 21st 2008 to December 27th 2008
*** Welcome to the 1st Weekly Summary Report of the Eve Market Discussion Forum ***
In this issue...
- Mineral Pricing: Markets at their best or worst?
- ZPOS: Speculation in the T2 Market Sends Ripples Across the Universe
- Elite Discussions: Guide For n00bs Emerges amid MD Shakeup
- IPO Update: Week of Dec 21st - 27th
MINERAL PRICES How should CCP and players respond? Tritanium and Megacyte pricing arguments dominated market discussions this week as seasoned traders continued to speculate about the future of the two minerals.
Reasons for the shifting prices were generally agreed to be demand side, though many advocated supply side interventions from CCP, while some argued for drastic reductions in Tritanium demands for core products. The introduction of the Orca and increased production of Tritanium-leaning ships seemed a consensus favorite explanation for the across-the-board rise in Tritanium prices. Few have public speculated about the freefall in Megacyte prices currently gripping the empire regions, though the Orca has been floated as a possible contributing factor.
Veterans and new players alike came down on both sides when discussing CCP intervention, with many dismayed that hi-sec mining could become more profitable than 0.0 and low-sec operations. Interventionists noted the scarcity of Veldspar belts in Hub regions, and the absence of Tritanium in better ores as possible problems straining on the beleaguered mineral. Non-interventionists noted the near-infinite supply via Veldspar 'roids in Missions and the five-times greater profit from 0.0 ores in noting that everything remains as it should in mining pecking order.
Only time will tell how this affects large alliance operations in 0.0 and whether CCP will take action, but as one observer noted, Pyerite survived a nearly 100% inflationary period without destroying too many miners livelihoods.

Zomg! POS Sploit Discussions Speculation in the T2 Market Sends Ripples Across the Universe The POS sploit remained a hot topic for traders as the speculative effects of the Ferrogel Fiasco took their toll on the Tech II market, with some traders cautious of a growing bubble.
Quantitive traders spent the week attempting to decipher the maximum possible impacts of the exploit on the Tech II market, while bullish traders noted that too little information was given about the impact of the exploit on more common reactions.
With little to nothing known about the possible extent of the crime, some traders have already begun to lament not jumping on the bandwagon early, with some Tech II item prices skyrocketing on expected reductions in demand.
Experience market watchers continue to urge caution at this highly volatile time, with one noting "I wouldn't buy anything unless I could afford to lose everything."

Most of the current issues without the flames. Definitely useful but far less entertaining.

Okay, thanks, it's good. Please be around in two months, or better yet form a team to ensure it's around longer than that. Also, links to the relevant posts would be a nice addition.
