you need the 2 damage mods with ions to be beter then neutrons..
ion, mwd, scram, webb, dcu, 2x mag stab, 2x damage rigs 2x hobg/warrior/ec-300
for max damage :P
neutron setup got some cpu free so you can even fit warp disrupter and scram on it :)

Standard fit for a ranis in gangs should be 3 125mm, MWD, Point, CR, 2 ODs and a nano.
Your main aim is to keep point and stay alive.
For solo, then yes, blaster all the way.

That would be for a tackling intie. That's what we use the ares/crow/malediction/raptor for. There are reasons for using rails on a ranis, but to be a tackler is not it.
Also, ranisgangs are awesome. Awesome.

I like to use either of these, both have proved to be considerably effective:
Blaster-Fit
HIGHS: 3 x Light Electron Blaster II (Faction AM, Null) 1 x Small Nos II
MEDS: 1 x 1mn MWD II 1 x Warp Scram II 1 x Stasis Web II
LOWS: 1 x MAPC I 1 x SAR II 1 x DC II
RIGS: 1 x Hybrid Burst 1 x Hybrid Collision
DRONES: 2 x Warrior II
Rail-Fit
HIGHS: 3 x 125mm Railgun II (Faction Iridium)
MEDS: 1 x 1mn MWD II 1 x Warp Disruptor II 1 x Tracking Disruptor II
LOWS: 2 x OD II 1 x PDS II
RIGS: 1 x Hybrid Burst 1 x Hybrid Collision
DRONES: 2 x Warrior II
Of the two, I prefer the blaster-fit, although the rail-fit makes for a useful dogfighter and is pretty effective at gunning down most AF's (Ishkur and Hawk excepted) thanks to being faster and packing a TD. Using the blaster variant, I've gunned down other 'ceptors, cruisers, destroyers and even a CNR (largely lol-fitted, but heavy missiles are more dangerous to a 'ceptor than cruise so it was actually a fun fight). It could probably drop many pvp-fit bc's as well providing they're not neut-heavy, web heavy or droneboats (which most aren't) given time.
The rail-version simply toasts cookie-cutter Crow and Crusader fits providing they don't realise what's going on pretty early and make a break for it (since they're still faster). Putting the 'irate' into 'Pirate' |

I don't agree. You're wasting a lot of dps there besides if you start taking damage or you want to stay outside of web range you can orbit at between 10-15km. If your goal is to tackle and not to help with dps you should fly something else, like an Ares. Really.
One of the Taranis' key strenghts is it's dps. If you're not going to tap into that fly something else.

Taranis threads are always the best. So much cluelessness.
Yes guys blasters are TEH BEST, it's all about DEE PEE ESS. And yes, fitted a web is USELESS, because you won't be flying inside web range? AMIRITE? Oh yeah and Taranis is best used as a tackler.
That picard facepalm picture would be here if it were allowed.

Edited by: Letifer Deus on 30/12/2008 00:09:07 if you want max dps and aren't terribly concerned about cost, go with this
3x ion 2s (with a heatsink somewhere in between)
catalyzed cold gas web T2 faint epsilon scram
internal forcefield array 2x magstab 2
2x warrior 2 (I prefer the explosive dmg and higher speed/tracking to the higher dps and hp of hobs)
burst aerator collision accelerator
With faction AM I get 331 dps (overloaded). It is dog slow for an inty, but it puts out massive DPS.
My speedier setup swaps two of the ions for neutrons, 1 mag stab for an OD2, internal forcefield for DCU2 and the dmg rigs for 2x aux thrusters. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Brought to you by the letter ARRR!" |

This, tbh. Hell, the other day I got into an Ares without any guns on it, simply because I had to grab something fast :p

Yeah if you plan on being a dedicated tackler, then fly an ares. I often will just refit my Taranis with a 24km disruptor though for gang duties, when I am no longer being shot at by target I rush in for blaster fun.
