This is not questioning if I should play EVE, it is a question about human behavior. I would assume that EVE is an appealing game because it subconsciously answers questions about the universe? Even though the EVE online reality is false, is the brain interpreting them as reality? What is so special about this game as apposed to other games? Is it the sense of adventure? Other games that are played are better understood, First Person Shooters are for the Epinephrine Rush (A.K.A Adrenaline), and for the brutal killing aspect, which is also a part of human nature (Gladiators ring a bell?). But for every theory there is an alternate, and sometimes, equally plausible version of that theory, such as the fact that it could be preparation for war becoming more, and more, like a video game. Then there's the Real Time Strategy game, that could be appealing for the simulation of Power of more than just yourself, but it could also be considered training for War. The MMORPG (I think we all know this one It appears to be just getting another life, something brand new, an alternative reality. But then there's eve which is far more than your average MMO. It's in space, the economy is player driven, and exploration is a real aspect. Sure it's not real...yet... But something similar to the EVE universe is FAR more plausible than WoW happening... Anyone else have thoughts?

Someone is reading way too much into this game.

I've always been a gamer, but normal MMOs don't do it for me. I enjoy a game with depth and longevity that I know I will be (or could be) playing years down the road. Also, I telecommute full time with a very stressful career and this both fills my time and relaxes me.
Also, I currently live far away from any family or friends from the west coast (I live in Colorado) and have for more than three years now, so this keeps me from getting homesick by keeping my mind occupied. It used to be that I relied on work to do that, but I eventually realized that working 60, 80, 100 hours a week or more directly on actual work was probably not a mentally healthy thing in the long run. Especially after all the years I put in doing that in San Francisco in the start of my career when I was just a kid.
Also, as I have started to discover through various sources (especially the Fan Fest videos), the people behind this game -- player wise -- are really unique. I think the typical EVE player is someone I am more likely to get along with if I met them in real life and had a beer. I don't feel like I'm playing a game I like with people I would probably dislike in real life. I'm playing a great game with great people. Say what you will about the EVE community, but they're largely pretty terrific and normal, if not in a somewhat demented, geeky, obsessed way.

- I can group with random people without worrying there's a better than even chance they'll be complete ******s. - I don't have to play 25/8 to keep up with everyone else - I can do what I want to do, not what the devs have decided I should do - If someone annoys me, I can shoot them
I'm not big into Sci-Fi, but Eve is a great game in its own right. Even if its missing space dragons and space elves and RL chicks

I read the wall. It's just that it's more fun to make jokes at the thread title than deal with the nonsense in the OP. ----------------

Speaking of actually reading the threads that get posted, I have noticed (just now) that part of the OP's name is unacceptably close to part of mine and tbh I just can't have this. CCP you know what to do.
No no, not doing anything is not the answer. HEY COME BACK.
Okay fine. You win this round OP but I'll be watching you

Why do I play games? Thats a tough question. I guess the simple answer it because I enjoy them.
What Eve in particular gives me is its longevity, its complexity, the satisfaction of pitting myself against another mind (as opposed to playing against computer software in non-internet games), the community (you do get to know people after a fashion even on voice only comms), the scope (I like games where up to 64 people get together buy the idea of an essentually unlimited number IE "There are 35,000 people online"...wow!) and the fact that CCP is commited to this software long term.
They are not turning out Eve, then two years later turning out Eve 2 and then moving on to something completely different and leaving me loving a game that is no longer supported.
I love the fact that CCP was started, and for the most part is run, by people who do this because its a labor of love.
