I think I already know the answer to this, but if I wanted to mine straight into my Orca, I would have to just risk it being stolen wouldn't I? (Only person in 4 man corp with Exhumer and Orca skills)

That is the best way to lose our Orca and give someone a nice present at the same time. There really isn't a good idea leaving an unmanned ship in space as a lot of people carebear or not would not hesitate to steal it.

Fair enough, thought as much =(
I guess I just have to wait for one of my corp mates to get the skills for either an Exhumer or Orca then
Thanks for the replies

Hit me up in game, I'll sit there and watch it for you, to make sure no one else steals it. --

You should be fine, if you are quick on the 'Board' Orca and then Scoop the Hulk you used. (make sure you disable lasers and empty cargo first)

I'm going to have to highly recommend you don't do that. Here's a scenario. Someone sees you doing it, they get in a covert ops frigate, or some other t1 frig with a cloak and come back to the belt. They creep up to within 2000 m of your ship before they decloak and eject. At this point you scramble to beat them into the Orca. You eject from your ship. Only problem is there is a delay timer to reboard and since they ejected first they are going to get into the Orca first. At which point they scoop up your exhumer and their original frigate and leave.

the situation described with a covops ship sneaking up on an orca i actually witnessed happen. not only did the guy lose his orca but also the hulk that he was mining with. bad news. don't leave orca unmanned. you will cry

Yes you can, I've done it on SISI. I'm not brave/stupid enough to do it on TQ with my orcas.

Originally by: DigDoug You eject from your ship
1. You can board another ship without ejecting in first, and thus avoid the 30 sec timer. 2. If someone has an unmanned ship locked, you can't board it (not tested for a while, and might allow boarding from owner or owner's corp).
Thus, what you suggest might work, at least for a while. So it would go like: - Go in belt, eject Hulk, board Hulk and lock the Orca -> Someone might just fast enough to board the Hulk or Orca before you get on next click
- After mining, release lock, board Orca, scoop Hulk -> Same risks as above (like some cov op alt patiently waiting)
Then again, what do you gain from mining directly to Orca? Couldn't you just jettison cans and come pick them after got enough for one load?
If the system has enough nasties to steal your Ore, then you definetly shouldn't risk the ship.
-Lasse wondering where his locator agent was agin

Another "problem" that noone mentiond yet is this: When you access the corp hangar on the Orca, you only have access to 40K M3. You can not move the ore from the corp hangar to the Orca's cargobay without piloting it.

If this mechanic is true, then the pirate only needs to fit some ECM to break the target locks. If there is only one other ship next to the unmanned orca, bring the correct ECM to break the lock, then start the takeover race for the orca...

In high sec, the second after you use that ecm on the other ship your cov ops ship is now concorded. If you eject and manage to get into the orca first wouldn't that ship then be concorded as well?
