This may well be a silly question but which mines more?
Strip miner 2
Tech 2

Modulated Strip Miners II with Crystals DO out mine regular t1 stipes. The difference is in the cycles. Mod strips have a 180 second cycle, strips have 360 cycle. So as a base, Mods do 720 m3 to 540 m3 for strips.
More over, MSM's receive additional bonuses for both t1 and t2 crystals: 164% yield for t1, and 175% for t2 (require lvl 3 per ore skill).
So with t2 crystals, MDM IIs can do almost 3X what regular strip can.

Actually, no, not at al. They all ahve 180 second cycles? The difference is indeed the crystals.
A tech 1 crystal gives something like a 1.625 modifier to the ore yield. Which means on a strip miner II with it's base yield of 360 and a tech 1 crystal it turns out to be 360 * 1.625 = 585 m3/s. The tech 2 crystals does indeed give 175% of the base yield, of 360m3 - 630m3. At best a tech 2 stripper gives 16.6667% better yield than a tech one counerpart - however at the price of t2 crystals which degrades over time. The actual profit is much less than 16% let alone 200%
The ore strip miner however is not modulated and can't use crystals. In fact the only difference between the ORE and the stock one is the optimal range, 17km base versus 15km base.
If you run a modulated strip Miner II without crystal it will bring in only 360m3 per cycle. So without crystals the tech one miners are always superior.
