Half the modules a ship has stuck to it or carries in its cargo go to hell when it is destroyed. This is too large a percentage, and often we find ourselves losing a crapton of potential loot because some random number generator decides it should be destroyed.
I feel that more modules and cargo should survive the destruction of a ship, so that someone who has bested another ship in combat gets a proper reward.

Well, "proper reward" is a bit subjective. Your prey probably feels you deserve nothing. You feel you deserve everything.
Current system makes you go "argh" sometimes, but it works. Just kill more...

modules destroyed is a _WEAK_ response to inflation by CCP. If the remove that too, then it's "game over man, game over!"

I feel more rare loot, above all, should survive ship destruction... I mean, I know you want it to be destroyed to maintain rarity, but there's rare and there's too rare. For example I've been trying to find modulated medium pulse lasers for months, at best finding one every two weeks or so if lucky.

This is new... I thought it was going to be another cookie-cutter flaming rant about how unfair the game mechanics are for pirates now and we need JIP/LAG traps reinstalled or something...
but it's just about not getting enough cash for loot...
damn shame...

I have noticed this too. Whenever my ships have died the good items seem to take a MUCH more noticeable than random hit. I used to think it just seemed that way till I lost a Moa and 3 of 4 Gauss rails but kept the two normal launchers. Lost a named hardener and booster, kept the normal afterburner and I think a normal hardener (been awhile...don;t remember what was in low slots). Pretty much if it was good it was lost and I got to keep all the normal crap.
I think the loss of items is the least that can happen if you lose a ship...we probably should lose more. What would be cool is if you could somehow jettison fitted modules as well as cargo. Perhaps that would give pirates a reason to damage and hold a ship for ransom rather than just kill it. They could try to bargain off the modules and/or an ISK ransom. As it stands now pirates have to kill the ship in hopes of getting any modules and just have to take their chances. This was would open up some options (of course the pirates could still just kill the ships if that is what they want).

There is a far easier way to make sure rare modules don't get destroyed. Stop shooting people. Eventually there will be enough modules that the prices might come down some and then you can buy them instead of killing all the nice people for them.
