Hi Oveur!
I like the idea of the pirates being a bit farther away from the gates than they are now...but 70-100Km seems a bit too far.
I understand the concern of mission-runners that someone will loot the cans...after all God only knows these days where and when an Implant will drop into the hands of someone running Kill Missions...
However, I heartily agree that this mission really brings some life into the "commuter simulation" that EVE can sometimes be when traveling on your normal routes. I quite enjoyed the surprise of seeing someone duking it out with cruiser rats by the gate in Oursalert (before knowing that I was witnessing a "blockade" mission).
Anyway...please think about bumping the distance from the gate just a little bit...say 50-70Km instead of the 70-100Km you mentioned.
[Off Topic] And by the way Oveur, in case you are reading this, you are doing a great job! I really like your fun style in your blogs, and it is clear that you really know and love EVE as much as so many of us do. You are a real asset to the EVE Dev Team. Thank you very much for all that you do! [/Off Topic]

I could ignore this .......
I wont ...I just wanted to stop the obvious whining about ship loss, can raiders and so on early.
I have weathered the nerfs/ changes for a year and now thought why not try and stop the whines ...or help reduce them ...THE IMPACT on you in this case my friend is less threads and whines ......I hope.
I did this all for you , .
Or did I ?

Quote: Posted - 2004.07.22 16:55:00 - Quote I noticed the bug with this mission that results in innocent passerbyes actually being targeted and destroyed by these pirates. Basically the code which causes pirates to switch targets is overriding the code that's supposed to prevent them from attacking other players other than in self defense.
Because of this, I'm raising the requirments of this mission tomorrow during downtime, meaning that this mission won't happen in any systems that are above 0.3 in security. Once the bug in the encounter djinn has been fixed, I will lower (or raise if you will) the requirements back to high secure space.

I totally agree. ~40km is plenty--it is close enough that it will seem urgent, but far enough to ease other concerns.
I also agree that it really livens up empire space if there are players running around destroying NPC pirate blockades at gates. ------------- My salsa makes all the pretty girls want to dance and take off their underpants. I <3 ( . Y . ) |

35-45km from gate will not be enough. People warp in at 15km, so rats will only be 20-30km away and thats usually enough for the rats to agro. Agro range seems to be around 50km, which should have added the 15km warp in distance, so a distance from gate at 65km+ seems better.

i like the mission, i don't mind it being near a gate... my problem is the lag. i freeze a couple secs everytime a player jumps in or out, and in big systems this can be very annoying.
the mission itself is nice, they come right after each other so no time for cap to recharge. I didnt know more would spawn the first time i did the mission so i moved right up to them in my caracal using my booster liberally. By the time i finished the last of them i was at 5% shields and about the same in cap. I was getting scared towards the end, couldnt fire my booster enough to outpace damage cause of cap and i knew they would tear through my caracals razor thin armor once they got through my shield hardeners.

The rats still seem to be spawning within 15km of the gate, so I have a new philosophy now.
If I can have a loss on someone elses failure, then I should be able to have a gain on someone elses success.
So now I am looting the cans, atleast untill I can make up for the bestower and the modules I lost earlier to the bloackade rats.

I ended up flying through one of these missions earlier today, and got targeted by a 100k rat. Now, as I was in a nearly fully kitted Battleship at the time, getting pestered by a 100k rat was actually rather enjoyable, but had I flown through one of those missions yesterday, when I was haulling my new Indi from one side of Empire to the other, I'd now be short about 1M isk, and rather anoyed at getting ganked in secure space, without even having anything of value to be stolen to justify said ganking.
It's an interesting idea, but doing them in secure sectors with Concord Battleships ignoring the entire event just doesn't quite make sense somehow.
