Never really got into the originals myself either... wont be getting Doom 3, waste of money to run it in low detail on my 2500+

The min specs arnt as bad as people have feared 1500 cpu, gforce 3 is min spec a 2500+ with a 9600 pro or better will run it fine with most eye candy on at say 1024 * 768 
Those minimum specs are a crock, you'll be able to play at 640x480 on low details with the "minimum spec" machine. I run a 2500 @ 3200 and a gf4 TI4200 and when i buy it from an el-cheapo table for $19.95 in 6 months i wont be expecting to run at anything more than a mix of medium and low details at 1024x768. Sloppy coding makes for a massive hardware hog, which from most reports is what Doom 3 is going to be.
The lack of any good multiplayer support without a 3rd party mod - which always change something about the games setup, no matter how much they claim it makes it "better" than the original - means there really isnt anything worth buying with this game.
