You might try older Ati drivers since the 4.8 version was retracted being too dodgy.

Got an Asus X800 pro today. Used Asus 3.06 drivers and it works flawlessly. Getting up to 32fps on 1280x1024. With the advanceDevice=1 turned on and using 32bit Zbuffer. Might get a little more out of it when I hardmod it to and XT but I don't have a clue what core GPU I have.
But in short works A ok for me. ___________________________ Favorite bumpersticker of the month: My head hurts! |

Originally by: Robskiwarrior yes, unfortunatly upgrading just your grafics card sometimes does not work... glad you hsve this sorted!! PCI-X would have been good to wait for, and the boards will have an AGP slot as well for a for year atleast anyway. But your fine with the MB you have bought, PCI-X will be awsome when it really gets going, the only issue is, by the time it does get going you will prob have to upgrade again anyway lol...
Sorry but PCI-X won't improve a bit. AGP8 has more than enough bandwith for a game like this. It's not heavy on the textures like Doom3 is gonna be. So if you get the PCI-X version of the X800 it will hardly improve the fps rate of Eve.
Like Joshy says is that the CPU will make a difference. And this generation GPU's is developed for the AMD64/PIV EE so lesser CPU's won't benefit as much from these new GPU's.
And before yesterday I used to have 512Mb PC2100 on my 250Gb chipset board and the performance wasn't that good. But using 1Gb of PC3200 definately helped out there. Since the game is leaking or using up memory on the long run. It starts up with about 150Mb of heap and after 4 hours it's up to 300-380. So with that rate you could easily play a whole day with the 1Gb. ___________________________ Favorite bumpersticker of the month: My head hurts! |
