Sorry it's taken solong but I feel it's my duty to help the EVE community and help them not fall into the same trap I did.
On the 31st of December 2008, I decided to try Brie.
It's beyond nasty.
That is all

What?? I like Brie. At least I think it was brie. Was it a soft yellow cheese with a white coating?

I'm not too worried about the cranberry, but having had this twice when it was the only thing that looked edible in a shop, I've found it to be awesome. _____ Originally by: Killer Kelly Apparently I just got nerfed but I can't tell the difference

How about this, we still got a crap ton of Brie in the fridge. If you can give me some good recipes and have a couple of people back you up. I will give it another shot.

You'll need :
white grapes (not the season but it's not mandatory) walnuts brie balsamic vinegar some bread to toast
Toast your bread and put some thin slices of brie on top when it's hot, add a few broken down walnuts and some cut in half grapes (if you have any) then pour a few drop of balsamic vinegar on top. Enjoy with a strong red wine like a Cahors, a Beaujolais or a Pinot Noir (if you can afford it).

I do like a nice warm Brie in breadcrumbs, taken with a redcurrent jelly or the like.
I suddenly feel peckish.

Is that jelly as in jelly or jelly as in we-can't-speak-the-language-but-pretend-to-anyway-and-raep-it-hard-in-the-process and mean jam?

Go try some Camembert, then ***** to us about Brie cheese.
Brie will taste delicious by comparison.

Edited by: P''uck on 04/01/2009 08:20:06 brie never tastes like brie. it has like umpteen different states of freshness and depending on the temperature it has been stored those are not always happening in the same timeframe.
I hate brie when its all bitter, but it can taste alright, too.
edit: and camembert and brie can taste totally the same.

Smell = 95% of taste, have you ever smelled a warm/melted wedge of Camembert?
I'd rather be stuck in a room after my dog farts in it.

It really depends on how ripe the camembert is, i tell ye.
Camembert can be almost without smell, too.
Needless to say, there are like a gazillion types of camembert too, but if you push it, you can probably find several combinations of types and ages of brie and camembert that taste/smell samey.

ohh.. Brie and all other soft cheeses can RAWK.. however, if you are not used to them, and you were served a poor quality cheese, then yes.. you will hate it.
some people are put off by the mold "crust".. if that was waht scared you, I'd suggest you get a brie, chill it in the fridge over night, and then cut off the crust, and just try the cheese in the center.
a good brie is wonderful when you have some nice black grapes with it, too. or red grapes.
man, I need to get back to switzerland now!

I must admit, although we always have 'real' cheese in the fridge i do tend to go for the 'plastic' cheese. Thanks to the people who have suggested some good recepies and I will give em a shot.
Anyone got anymore?

take the plastic cheese, put on toast, coat in thin layer of BBQ sauce, put in oven till cheese melted, goes well with a beer

A good Brie/Camembert is most certainly divine. We had a half-circle of Brie de Meaux, cost a bit more and quite strong but so very tasty. I find often the trouble with buying brie is that the supermarkets try to sell if too early, well before its best before and therefore, well before it is truly ripe and ready to eat. I hate getting brie with a hard centre. It should be soft and delicious.

Brie is for the cheese enthusiast. If your the 'stinkier the better' type, then you'll likely like Brie. I just like it alone on crackers, but it also goes great with other things as others have suggested.
