I am intereested in advice from an experienced Amarran about the best course of training for a new Khanid for PvP effectiveness.
What is most highly recommended in terms of tanking? Shield or armor?
What are the weapon skills an Amarran should fully develop?
Should drone skills be left to Gallente?
In general what are my targets in terms of skills, tanking, ganking, and ships?
Thank you in advance.

Armor tanking first
Lasers first - some t2 missile boats later
Drones are useful, and you'll want good drone skills eventually (pilgrim/curse/arbitrator)
You'll want excellent capacitor management skills.
Try to find a ship you think you'll like, and get all the skills that affect it, (speed, tank, gank, fittings), to level IV. Proceed to level V for maxing it out, or move to another ship.

Edited by: Asestorian on 04/01/2009 23:21:28 Your primary weapons are going to be lasers, and your primary tanking is going to be armour (some setups use shield extenders, but it's not that common). Drone skills are all round useful and every race should get them. They are mostly the only anti-frigate weapon that larger ships have and are one of the only weapons that still work when you've been jammed (although if you didn't direct them to attack someone specific before you were jammed then they'll just go and do their own thing, often quite unhelpfully).
Some nice ships to go for are the Punisher, Omen, Arbitrator, Harbinger and the Battleships are all awesome in various ways. The Tech II line up for Amarr is generally pretty good as well, and they have always been considered to have some of the best capitals.
When it comes to skills you're going to want to train capacitor related skills as one of your priorities, more so than the other races, because lasers are the most cap intensive weapons in the game. In PvP this is often made less of an issue by the fact that the larger ships tend to be quite good with passive, plate-based buffer tanks which require little cap. But in PvE, where total longevity is the name of the game you can find yourself in trouble here and there. Beyond that the skills you really want are the same as any race: fitting and general weaponry and support skills, and make sure you can at least use medium drones by the time you end up in a battleship.
That's about all I can think of here really. It's been so long since I started training Amarr ships I've sort of forgotten what I actually need and what is just me training skills for the heck of it

Amarr ships are also decent for capacitor warfare. Fit nos and neuts to disable your enemies' capacitors. .............

Amarr training regimin:
Capicator skills (at LEAST to lvl4) Armor tanking skills Secondary gunnery skills (sharpshooter ect.)
after completing these you can train battleships and HACs before that for pvp I would suggest frigates

I was actually wondering what the best Amarr frigate was today out of morbid curiosity. Punisher? I heard the Inquisitor (I think) was also very good. I am looking at it from a PvP view more than a missioneering/mining, etc. point of view.

Definitely the Punisher for a solo PVP ship. The Crucifier might be more useful to a big fleet, though, to do electronic warfare. Note that most people do not fit their Punisher with lasers, but instead fit autocannons or blasters. .............
