Is that bad? :P That being said, we didnt create EVSCO and its large killmail database to spy on people, but if others use EVSCO for it - then people found a new use i hadn't anticipated :) That being said, i should prolly look into making such a page, listing a corp and/or pilots latest movements and most spotted places ;D Should be fun lol
Billy Merc Amarr Born-2-Kill Eradication Alliance	Posted - 2009.01.24 03:43:00 - [93] Edited by: Billy Merc on 24/01/2009 03:43:30 Yeah we are in the process of getting our rss feed disabled. the potential here for pilot/corp/alliance profiling is HUGE....and this makes it a one stop shop for such things. even settig up some sort of sophisticated API that allows 3rd party tools to interface with the raw datasets......you could profile movement, ship preferences, fc's, dic/hic/falcon pilots, pilot preferences......all of which you can do now with a conventioal killboard....but this makes it way too easy....hell its like having a spy...but not having to go though all the effort of entrenching your asset into the target alliance/corp....all automatic....all from the one centralized location. dont get me wrong i love the effort u guys have gone too...but this game is bad enough with spys...let alone an analytical goldmine like this.

You have the normal killboard access, which any spy can find in a second (usually just by visiting the targets killboard). We just put these mails together in one place, so yes, you save a google search, but really, that's all :) Come by our IRC chat if you have any suggestions for minimizing this "problem". /Beanie

Firstly, disabling RSS does nothing to stop the feed mod... also now disabling the feed mod itself does nothing, its built into the code, has been for a while i beleive! The point of a Killboard appears to confuse some people it would seam, a Killboard was originally designed as a way to visually display your killmail in a more readable manor, over time this expanded into things like battle reports, campaigns, etc. Now, a single alliance can easily be tracked, disabling your own killboard does nothing, take CVA for example, as far as I know you cant see there Killboard, its private, but to get the intel you need, just go visit say, AAA killboard. Altho Killboards can be used for intel, making your own killboard less viewable does really nothing in the long run, however, if people would contribute there time and effort into the improvement of the killboards, maybe threw some ideas about, hell even read the EDK forums people might me less backwards. So really some people need to rethink as to why they have killboards, is it a place to display your kills in a more viable way, a nice way to track corp/alliance accheivements, a place to chest beat because you spend a day in lowsec killing cyno alts? If you want things to be improved with the Killboard, get over to the EDK forums, explain what you would like to see, those able to code, throw out some improvements, hell even use some of the mods which hide alot of the data if you want! But dont sit there and cry about a killboard that has all your kills and losses on it, because ultimatly, if EVSCO doesnt sync from you, they will just get the data from everyone else who you have killed and lost stuff to!

Scared that people might figure out that 2 years ago you failfitted your ships so horrible that it'd make a newb now cry with laughter?.. I admit, my very first loss was a Raven fitted with heavy launchers, and was armor tanked and had hull reppers in its medslots.. i was a horrible noob back then. Now we got that covered, why are people afraid of the possibility of people spying on their setups? Not like you can read who is the FC from the killmails, nor can you see what your tactics are, where you are comming from (JB/Titan etc) or if you live in the system. There are NO indications what so ever to any of those things.. People can only guess.... So the more people whine about "OH NOES PEOPLE CAN SPY" the more moronic they look. And disabling the RSS feed doesnt do anything, you need to remove the feed.php file, or rename it to something different so your allies can still fetch mails from your killboard. Be warned tho, it will only put you in a bad light. That and if you yourself are feeding of other boards, it would be kinda ironic. That and i'd personally ban your server from ever using EVSCO's feed..

Flying with a large number of blues (in before napfest comments) at the moment it's hard to be synched up to everyones boards, using your feed has allowed me to catch 5 or 6 mails a week (on average) that would otherwise slip through the cracks. Beware I don't know if you've read the newly opened BOB forums but they talk about feeding you fake killmails to grief you (http://www.bandofbrothers.org.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=106723) I think its a bit of a **** move but should be easy enough for you to add some sort of script to cross check fed mails for fakeness. Goons kb was synced up to date a few days ago , that and they have a very nice server for there killboard!

In all honesty, we mailed most of the larger alliances asking them if we could somehow be connected up via them, and serving their killmails to the public - be that with a 24hour delay or more, but the fact that BoB actually thought about just feeding us fake mails, says more about BoB and its member corps than it does about us. all of that being said - not like i care much, if they dont want to share the killmails they have done they shouldn't.. Only thing it does say about them then, is that they might aswell be Griefwatch and/or Battleclinic.. And we all know how we really feel about those two entities

The only comment about "fake killmails" there is someone remembering that they fed fake kill mails to BC, apparently after those tried to mirror kill mails without permission.

We actually went out and asked people to supply a feed for us. And if they didn't want to, we left them alone. Simple as that. That people feed fake mails to abusers is fine by me, but when someone comes up and asks you nicely, then it's bad, mmmkay! But as Karbowiak said, we are adding features and stuff all the time. Our killboards has implemented the EDK feed syndication interface properly, with all the filters and stuff, but it is not using the 'a' parameter for specifying which page to load, as the feed is coming from a separate webpage. Can you lift this requirement or add our board manually? Contact me ingame if in doubt.
