Edited by: Shanzem on 05/01/2009 17:57:10 UK maths failures 'cost ú2.4bn'
So they have a free healthcare?
They can drink themselves stupid
Nanny state, We cannot punish them,
We have a ****ed up education system
And they cost us more money to keep alive. AND they cost you your rights.
The TRUE price of idiocy, Am I the only person to see all of this?
My god.
I am not bashing the UK, But whoa we have let our standards slip. I just want to know other people feelings and thoughts..

Originally by: Dr Slaughter Unsurprising really, what do we do about it? Let's face it in a couple of generations the UK is definitely going to be populated by the crew of the Hitchhikers guide 'B Ship'.
I love this quote from that first links feedback comments:
Quote: I was amazed by the speed with which my students (operating systems course) went from looking slightly confused to completely switched off once I mentioned something wouldn't be in an exam. I was going into detail of things like ZFS on the assumption that people who had opted to do a computer science degree were actually interested in the subject - apparently not. My favourite quote from the entire year though was a complaint from one of my students: I'm paying -ú3,000 a year for this degree. I don't expect to be told to read stuff in a book!
[Serious post - just so people understand] What are you an idiot? you leave to Germany. YOU DO NOT HELP THE ENGLISH DO NOT WASTE YOUR BREATH OR TIME AND ENERGY. Jesus Christ you actually think that small island of idiots is actually going to get better.

I like how you say this without a touch of irony while linking to an article on it in the OP.
Note that none of these sources CITE any figures. or how they gained the statistics.

What is the definition of an infinitely differentiable Riemann manifold? What is the Hausdorff dimension of the Seirpinski Gasket? Prove that the set {1/n such that n is a natural number} union {0} is compact.

Dammit man I am not a mathematician (That`s your job!!) (I do Engineering, My maths revolve around sin and cos, physics for fun also enjoy classical mechanics. also Electronic Engineering but that`s just a maths ***** )
But if you have some books i should be reading I demand linkage! also anything to teach me show me

Its not just due to poor education, but also down to the culture that the kids grow up in. Too much TV, too many disractions (on purpose to keep your mind off important issues). Celeb culture teaches kids its ok to be thick as pig **** because anyone can 'make it'.
It is society that has let the population down not TV etc, all systems that revolve around money (pretty much every country in the world) are corrupt and teach us from an early age that we should compete excesively to make more money than each other, %90 of people who are in jail are in there because of crimes related to money.
Untill people realise that it is money that creates disgraceful human behaviour then we will always have conflict and society problems. If your good at maths or not should not be important, i'd rather be a decent person and know nothing about maths, than some stuck up ******** banker who knows a lot about maths and thinks he's better than everyone else.(who apparantly are not that good at maths based on the state of our economies).
Agreed that's why i wanted to start fab labs up. People are stuck in there homes like prisons. for a small fee and getting some old electronics together and some raw resources (wood metal etc) they could spend there free time working with a small group building something, it gets them socializing, studying (Adults need help to) its increases the core education behind the masses at the bottom. They could also use it to repair old appliances (instead of paying for new ones).
The UK needs something like this to help patch up the damaged social structure. Increases adult, teenager and child education (for a VERY small fee compared to school, college, University) Helping adults of of poverty and into better jobs.
Also makes more locvations other then PUBS and CLUBS to go to.
This also moves onto invention and ultimately accomplishment and happiness.
