Thanks for a very good read.
Is it "true", more or less I mean? I so miss the days when everything was so new, scary and fascinating. * -"You know, we play the "good guys" right? We kill pirates, griefers, retards and general subversive elements in the EVE-Community. To the rest, we are friendly and always prepared to help out. Peo |

Ore theft is good way to make money, i've made at least 50mil from theft. I'm a solo player and if I happen to see 2-3 BS strip mining i'll be sure to empty a few cans worth for them.

well depending on what system the ore was in that might have been mine. ESPECIALLY if it was recently. Been working on a few fireld, getting rid of veld and scopr to make room for pyro and in some kern and omber. Ive left full cans latley so keep an eye out for em :). If infact it was my ore then it is not thievery because you did infact find a abandoned can which should have popped but didnt. Anyway, like i said your more than welcome to any can marked with the GWSS named Leftovers seeing as after this topic i dont want you to have a heart attack. Anythinbg i leave for whoever will be named "Leftovers" and without a time.

newbie highsec ore thiefs like this one deserve a medal
Arguing with EVE customer support is like chatting up stewardess on the plane - you know you're not gonna get any , but it's still hella fun trying |

So if I would have brought my hauler down this weekend and cleaned up all the trash you put in that can your were mining into in Eddar and kept it for myself that would have been ok? Considering your stance why teach N00b's how to do this, and even haul for them?

*Applauds Gwarnina* When starting out in EVE, its always good to go on some kind of an adventure, I'm mining in a bs now and if someone came up to me in a frigate, with an employment list of less than 2 months, saying "can i have some ore? i need a cruiser", i would gladly give it to them, knowing they need it more than i do... but that is not stealing Gwarnina, at least in my opinion, good work and hope you prosper in this game :D (btw, im actually a part time pirate)

H&L, I'm surprised at you. You think I'm an ore thief? Is that what you're implying with the hypocrisy accusations? You obviously don't know anything about my stance or me.
Again, there are no such things as ore thieves. There are only people who let their stuff be be taken. That's my whole point.
Had you decided to take our stuff this weekend, other than being a hypocrite in trying, you would have failed because we had haulers already there covering the cans. That's the whole point.
I never taken anyone's stuff, yet I have no sympathy for those who sit there and let theirs be taken. If you think that's being a hypocrite, fine but I'll disagree.
I'm teaching n00bs to guard their stuff and not be complacent in thinking they can just have stuff lying around and be surprised when someone takes it and then cry "OMG ore thief!!11!". You can do that if you want.
IMO, talk about ore thieves does nothing. People need to talk about how to minimalize being a victim to these so called ore thieves.
Anyone can take stuff out of an jetted can. That's a basic fact that everyone has to deal with and every n00b should know.

I see your reasoning.. but if you have well placed bookmarks, a solo miner could grab the ore he mines just as fast, if not quicker than a friend hauling it... if a friend is unloading a load and somebody shows up in the belt and decides to grab some stuff.. even if that indy warps directly back ontop of its can, it would still be too late.. unless if there were several haulers and the can(s) were always being guarded constantly.. but in that case the cans are so near empty there isn't much point in 'guarding' them in the first place.
I see your point and I think its a good one.. but my point is that if people 'let' their stuff be taken when solo mining, then it doesn't make that much of a difference when a friend in guarding the can.. unless if you are paranoid and dont want a hauler more than 1500m from the can at any given time. ____________________________________________________________________ Need moons scanned for a corporation Starbase? Good points and I agree with them. When I say "let", I mean continue to "let" it happen after the first time. You can never completly stop it from happening at least once. When I said minamalize, I didn't mean stop.
In other words, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."
It takes me about 30 minutes to fill a can up with one average hauler load. So let's say someone swoops in and takes that load. I have serveral options available to me and the least intelligent one I can think of is to cry ore thief and continue to mine and 'let' them do it again.
Everyone accepts a risk everytime they go out to mine. No matter where you mine, it is never 100% risk free in this game. I think you know all this, but let me digress a little anyway.
The organic checks and balances in this game is what makes the game attractive to me. When people want to remove that, not realizing the alternative will be slower mining among other things, I speak up in my own way.
I think people that are surprised about ore thieves, either thought mining was risk free or never truely believed that it wasn't. Either way, most people learn to adapt and overcome in their own way. It's not that hard.
Yet others come in here and cry about ore thieves and try to come up with ways of killing them or getting rid of them all together. Heh, good luck.
Anyway, I think this thread has been derailed long enough. It was a great story but it was clearly an abandoned can. Have fun, everyone.

Quote: jettison /jettisÆn/
ò verb 1 throw or drop from an aircraft or ship. 2 abandon or discard.
ù ORIGIN Old French getaison, from Latin jacere æto throwÆ.
SOURCE: Compact Oxford English Dictionary
Note that the primary definition makes no mention regarding ownership or how the person throwing something off the ship regards his/her ownership of that item.
For instance: A military cargo plane could jettison a pallet of ammo and food for the troops below. Maybe it is just me but despite the cargo plane jettisoning the cargo out the back door I somehow suspect the military still views whatever is on it as theirs. If you disagree and think the military has thrown it away then try taking what they drop and see how far you get.
While you seem to prefer definition #2 I prefer #1 and that debate has been done to death. The only point here being that you cannot use the definition of the word "jettison" to support your case (or rather both sides in the debate can use the definition to support or debunk essentially cancelling each other out).
As mentioned this is a case of an abandoned can so it was not theft by anyone's definition.

Psst. Your whole post was about a signature that changes often and was not used to support my stance. If I get around to it, I might change the URL to the one you posted. That is if I don't change it completly to something else when I get bored with it. Anyway, thanks!
I'll still respond. As you say, it doesn't matter which definition you or I prefer. What matters is how the game actualy works.
The game mechanics can easily be changed to make jetted cans secure, but they haven't. Why is that? I dunno, but I think the fact that it hasn't says a lot about how the game was designed to be played.
If I wanted to argue about semetics I would argue that the game adheres to the "abanodned" definition more than any others. It wouldn't be because of pesronal preference. It would be because of my observation of these mechanics. I could be wrong. Either way we're not arguing about sematics, right?
I'll still keep it as a sig for a little while anyway. It's a fun one and I like it.

great story. But 170k is NOTHING for a battleship miner and if the miner was a new guy in a frig he wouldnt have left it floating for all the time it took you to pick it up so no need to feel guilt. Can't remember how fast I could mine 170k veld but it cant be more than 15-20 minutes. Anyway that reminds me of my very first mining experience in my ibis back in beta. I activated my basic miner 1 on an omber roid and was immediatly threatened to get killed by some moron who vlaimed the roid was his.
