love the idea, but suggest leaving certain panells standard colours. For example, as it stands the only difference between an Exqueror and a Crusader is the addition of a few red thrusters and fins which is pretty distinctive if kept. The Helios however is just a green Maulus. you can now see the problem.
Also the system might cause lag unless its built into the next patch and a lot of disk space will be needed for the alteration.

It takes too many resources. Fleet battles become even bigger lag-fests, sever load gets MUCH larger, making the game cost more to run, and the game becomes more "crappy-computer unfriendly" reducing the playerbase.
No matter which way you code it, it takes more client-side and server-side resources.

not true at all. i own a Helios. aside from the color change, there are four large spikes on the ship that pulse with white energy, two of which are similar to the spikes found on npc pirate Tristans.
