They would be selected via voting. Only members in militias could vote for commanders. Commanders could kick spies away from militia.
Why all this?
Because in player corporations you can KICK spies after you find one.
In FW you can't and even if you find a spy, it can continue the childish act and still someone is stupid to accept this kids to their fleets.
This is big issue in FW and there should be a way to get rid off spies, just like in player corporations.
Enough said.

So all a big group would need to do to cause utter chaos in FW would be to get a bunch of alts, put them in FW corp, have them vote for the ringleader and then go on a kicking spree when they win? That sounds hilarious, this is a great idea.

Why not just form a corp and join the militia altogether...? Sure it won't stop spies from trailing your fleets but any neut can do this already. and Don't use militia chat for your intel...?

That's right. You keep telling yourself that. Nothing is wrong with a little optimism.
Also, I have a outpost in Jita I'd like to sell, if you are interested.

Edited by: Ghoest on 07/01/2009 18:08:57 I think forming corps out of militia players us the obvious answer.
Although what Im sure would happen is minor delusions of grandeur and the leaders would add a small tax for their services. |

Any mod there who could transfer this thread to proper forum?
Anyhoo, this issue needs to be addressed, it's just plain stupid that players can't kick spies from militia.

For reference, in eRepublic (a browser game) there was a war between Romania and Russia. Some hundred-odd Romanians moved into Russia just before the Presidential election, elected one of them as the new President, and the rest is history. Romania coordinated an attack on all Russian territories timed to happen with the election, and before he could be impeached by the Parliament, the infiltrator surrendered on all fronts. And Russia ceased to exist as an ingame entity.
Elections could work if there were the critical mass to keep things like this from happening. Perhaps require some advanced rank for candidates, so that you must actually work before a coup, making it a bit more tedious. Though admittedly, the "form your own corp" idea works, though there are always soloers etc. - though, if the NPC corps end up being mostly soloers and spies, then it actually will form a kind of a recruiting pool or a "reserve" for the actual FW corps. The problem in this system is the size of the corps, though. (Haven't checked, but I would assume that the amount of people in the militia corps are quite large compared to many smaller player-run corps.) Since some corps likely have standards (which the automated NPC corps don't have) this is understandable.
A possible compromise solution would be to have a system that each month nominates top-performing people in the NPC corp, such as people with most VP or people with most kills into special roles (perhaps again with the condition that they've been in the corp for some time and hold some certain or higher rank). While the NPC corp naturally hasn't got the need for most of the ranks nor does it have any funds, within limits this could work.
One problem with the kick is that since joining the militia is automated, kicked people could re-join via the automated system. To make the kicks effective, you'd need to have the join process handled manually, as well. This would effectively turn the militia corps into player corps - and again, this is better handled by forming a real player corp with the mechanics already present.

I don't think this would prevent spies. People can just create new characters and join militia again. Perhaps you could have some form of voting system, but this could be so easily abused.
However, having Commanders, or some kind of ranking system, within a militia isn't a bad idea. If anyone is willing, they could co-ordinate militia operations, much as a corp leader organises corp activities. |
