This post is made for questions to be answered from pirates only; either that be current or past pirates.
Pretty much I am posting with an alt because I choose not to have my identity reveled. I have some questions that I wish to be answered from pirates in EVE. PVP is always something that has been interesting to me, and EVE seems to have a large amount of it, but BloB warfare does not seem very fun. So here are my questions:
As a pirate do you have majority of it a Blob Warfare? How do you get the skill books and ships if most if not all are sold in empire space (.5-+ security)? Do pirates go after other pirates or is it a common understanding of neutrality for each other? Is it easier to make ISK from pirating or from doing industrial professions? How do pirates make most of their income? What kind of ships (level wise, not actual race of ships) are used for pirating?
Sorry, I know some of these questions are very obvious to most of you, and hell sounds pretty newbie, but that is why I am asking. Thank you for all those able to answer these, and in the future I might contact you with my non-alt and see if you are recruiting more pilots.

I am not a pirate but I have done it in the past, now when I did it I had an alt to make the iskies as I already had him anyways and shame to put him to waste. For me though it was not viable to make isk from piracy at the time as I spent most my time sat afk cloaked just to make folks paranoid and when I would pounce for the kill it was pretty much guaranteed that their friends would be closing in so couldnt exactly hang around for ransoms.
Blob warfare is something I dislike, I prefer solo pvp. But I do think there is more and more blob warfare these days than say a year ago, still lots of solo pvp opportunities to be had though.
Pirates do go after other pirates. I mean why wouldnt they? You are out on the hunt and see a ship, you kill it. But you do get the friendly types who sometimes team up with other pirates they meet on their travels and hunt together.
I would say it's easier to make isk from industry than it is from piracy, but then again I have spent most my time in eve doing something industry related so know how to make a few quick isk.

No. Blob = profit split between too many people.

Hauler alt.
Quote: Do pirates go after other pirates or is it a common understanding of neutrality for each other?
The only neutrality other pirates get is if they're too risky to engage.
Quote: Is it easier to make ISK from pirating or from doing industrial professions?
Industry, but piracy is far more fun.
Quote: How do pirates make most of their income?
Loot, ransoms, carebear alts.

*This is subjective....most pirates tend to be smaller gangs though.

- Not as blobby as 0.0, by far - Pods, Alts - OOKI = On Overview Kill It - aka, yeh piwates kill other piwates if they can - Depends on where you live, how good you are, and whether you control a LowSec Market/COSMOS Hub or just a small, off-route, **** lowsec system. - Carebearing, not necessarily with an Alt ... i run Lvl 5s and 4s myself when i¦m bored. Or the lucky Faction/Titan BPO Drop - HAC/HIC and above Station/Gate PvP, and everything for Belt/Mission-popping

As far as I'm aware, pirates don't do piracy to make money. They do it to survive. It's very much a 'Bit of Yarr to keep us in ships' rather than the industrialist or market denzien goal of 'make as much ISK as possible'.

Skillbooks are sold in lowsec. There is a tech school in Amamake I frequent which is a .4 system.

Mostly we don't discriminate. The real pirate is an equal opportunity kind of killer. There are those who will warp off/run and not fight at even odds but I chock this up to the new breed of wannabees who are mostly prowling for people who can't fight back.

Personally, I waited until my industry base became sufficient to perpetually make more ISK with minimal input from me before going actively pew pew.

There is a LOT of lowsec that is empty most of the time because of... well, pirates... when I get tired of looking for targets I will run a complex or two and make money that way.

Ships that I can afford to fit and replace frequently.

As a pirate do you have majority of it a Blob Warfare?
- depends on the area but yes, we are always worried about the blob arriving. wont stop us engaging, just means we dont stick around long to collect tears in local.
How do you get the skill books and ships if most if not all are sold in empire space (.5-+ security)?
- out of corp alts.
Do pirates go after other pirates or is it a common understanding of neutrality for each other?
- hell yes, blow them all up.
Is it easier to make ISK from pirating or from doing industrial professions?
- piracy is why i make isk other ways, not a way to make isk itself. maybe that has to do with the fact that i never offer ransoms tho, so i guess i'm not a pirate, just an equal opportunity killer. :P
How do pirates make most of their income?
- carebear alts.
What kind of ships (level wise, not actual race of ships) are used for pirating?
- everything. well, honestly, i've never deployed a titan on a piracy op, so i guess not everything. every other ship class has been used at various times tho. commonly use the recons, hacs for roaming gangs. |

As a pirate do you have majority of it a Blob Warfare?
-- I try to avoid the blob. Learn to collect your tears quickly!
How do you get the skill books and ships if most if not all are sold in empire space (.5-+ security)?
-- Alts! Or make a corp ***** haul them for you.
Do pirates go after other pirates or is it a common understanding of neutrality for each other?
-- Unless they're blue, you kill them. Unless you happen to be temporarily working towards a common goal, in which case you be prepared to kill them after you're done, because they rarely keep their word.
Is it easier to make ISK from pirating or from doing industrial professions?
-- It's easier to make ISK in industry. Not saying there isn't ISK to be made, but it's not as profitable. It's a hell of a lot more fun than playing the Spreadsheets Online part of EVE, though!
How do pirates make most of their income?
-- Killing people and stealing their loot. Or just waiting around for an opportune moment to steal something. Most of it is luck. But I'm not really a pirate, per se, as I don't ransom. I'm just a murderer.
What kind of ships (level wise, not actual race of ships) are used for pirating?
-- I've had motherships and carriers, even a dread hotdropped on me more than once. But generally you'll find anything from frigates and cruisers (belt piracy) up to battlecruisers/battleships and T2 variants. Recons and HACs for roaming fun!

Quote: As a pirate do you have majority of it a Blob Warfare?
I have had quite a few blob fights. lost a couple ships deu to my mistakes, but its all good, other wise its mostly people who are lagging behind a fleet, afk people, people not watching local (or jumping one jump intoa systtem next door... where my freind is poking around in a covops lol, note i said freind, not alt, since its not my account and it was a living breathing person behind the account)
Quote: How do you get the skill books and ships if most if not all are sold in empire space (.5-+ security)?
Skillbooks are easy. ships can be a little harder, but it is very possible to move ships also. As for me, there is an npc stn 2j from i am at that sells skills. four ships my freinds haul me stuff (and they make extra since i pay them more to haul it to my system)
Quote: Do pirates go after other pirates or is it a common understanding of neutrality for each other?
not blue, kill. plus they tend to drop better items :)
Quote: Is it easier to make ISK from pirating or from doing industrial professions?
Most likey the indu / missions, but if you get one or two lucky kills, then your set for a while
Quote: How do pirates make most of their income?
Depends. Honorable corps (like mine), can ransoms. If someone pays ransom you will walk free. There are couple corps that dont honor this, and i hope they die with fire. :) Otherwise pirating, npcing while roaming (rare though), or they may very well have an indu alt or mission running alt.
Quote: What kind of ships (level wise, not actual race of ships) are used for pirating?
This really depends on what type of pirating your doing. Belt pirating in lowsec can be done via t1 frigs (pike your targets) or intys. Really, any ship can be used for pirating. Tanking senty fire usl needs a bigger ship that wont melt in 15secs.

I try not to whine too much but a lot of what we fight involves "falcon warfare" :D
It depends... I mean, I'll engage solo or small gangs but if there's another 15 of them next door or in local, expect to get blobbed. People can be stupid but not stupid enough that if they're losing a fight they don't scream in alliance/corp chat or on teamspeak.
As long as you're aware of your surroundings and have good intel, you shouldn't really get blobbed all that often.
Quote: How do you get the skill books and ships if most if not all are sold in empire space (.5-+ security)?
Well you can enter high sec, you just can't stay there for very long. I've gone across 10 high sec systems in a plated phobos before (I'm -10) and survived fine. The faction navies actually speed up the process by webbing you as soon as they lock you ;-) Although I wouldn't dock in a station in a slow moving ship without an insta undock... Shuttles / pods / ceptors etc are fine for picking up skill books and small items.
Alternative methods are an alt with a hauler/freighter/jump freighter or someone else in your corp.
Quote: Do pirates go after other pirates or is it a common understanding of neutrality for each other?
I'll attack anything I can. I don't care if they're other pirates or 1 day old characters in an ibis.
Quote: Is it easier to make ISK from pirating or from doing industrial professions?
If you're very good or very careful, you can make a lot of isk from pirating either through loot or ransoms. However for a lot of people it's very difficult to make a "profit", most barely scraping by and breaking even. Many people have alts who do missions or trade or what-have-you to supplement their income or cover losses.
It's not a profession to enter if you want to get rich.
Quote: How do pirates make most of their income?
Ransoms, loot. That's about it.
Quote: What kind of ships (level wise, not actual race of ships) are used for pirating?
Anything from tech 1 frigates to black ops battleships or carriers/dreads. Most of the time in low sec it'll be frigates, hacs and battleships though, each used for different methods of pirating. Battleships will gate camp, assault frigates or interceptors will catch stuff in belts (along with HACs), covert ops will probe down people in missions or safe spots, carriers/dreads will ransom or destory posses...

Quote: As a pirate do you have majority of it a Blob Warfare?
Not 9 months ago, but since I came back 2 weeks ago, yes most of it has been blobish. anti pies blob, pies blob back, never ending spiral of doom, and I blame falcons also. I haven't played very much though seen maybe 2-4 fights. Been rather busy in RL.
Quote: How do you get the skill books and ships if most if not all are sold in empire space (.5-+ security)?
Skill books are sold in low sec, a hauler alt with over 15k m3 takes like 1 week to train. Getting BS to low sec is more of a hassle though. Unless you have freighter or corp to handle it.
Quote: Do pirates go after other pirates or is it a common understanding of neutrality for each other?
IMO other pirates should be seen as competition. You don't need more pilots hunting your systems.
Quote: Is it easier to make ISK from pirating or from doing industrial professions?
My non pirate activites easily yield me more then enough isk to pay for two accounts with GTCs (so more then 1200 mill in 2 months). Spending about 20-30min a day (so about 40mill per hour spent, you wont make that much isk pirating generally from month to month). Pirating when I was serious about it in the past has given me 900mill in only ranoms during 2 months, and the month before that I got a CNR in a mission with loot for more then 1 bill. Yes it pays of good enough to support one account and ships if you know what you are doing and still enough isk left to spend it on some extra goodies.
Quote: How do pirates make most of their income?
Ransoms (bring ship scanner). Probing mission runners is a good way of finding targets that are easily handled by you solo with rats help in dps. You can handle a missioning BS with a t1 cruiser if you are lucky.
Quote: What kind of ships (level wise, not actual race of ships) are used for pirating?
Rifter for belt piracy that is almost dead and doesn't yield much isk. Probe ship to find mission runners (t1 probe ships does work). I use an arazu to tackle mission runners and damp them so they can't fire back. But I think almost all common PvP ships are used for piracy. The best ones are those with something extra in the back pocket allowing you to score kills and ransoms you shouldn't. As an example I have ransomed a zealot in a celestis for about 80mill before nos and damp changes. I also ransomed several BCs in the ship and killed a sacrilege. There still ships around with almost the same potential.
One ship to rule them all, one ship to find them, one ship to jam them all, and in the darkness bind them.
