I was sitting in space with a few friends guarding a player owned station that switches ownership like britany spears through men. I have a friend in a crap frigate sitting out I guess he was just waiting to be ganked. An enemy ceptor warps in, pulls a cloak and watches for a while.
Aleika the hostile ceptor pilot sees his target and warps out. Warps back in only 30k from my friendly frig. I set my ship to approach this extremly elusive ship and lightly tap the mwd.
I target, scram, drain all his cap, release the HOUNDS and they went to work. a powerless little ceptor could do nothing but base speed. boom went the ship and the cloaking device fell n2 my hands along with her nice litte weapons.
She then goes on for 1 hour about me not being on scanner, and how i am exploiting. Then the harrassment starts.

The scanner never updates on my end, tbh. I always have to manually update it by scrolling through ranged and auto.
Anyway, stupid bint should stick to frigates.

My scanner goes pfft sometimes, have to close it and reopen it to reset. That usually fixes it. Probably what happened to this person.

Cheats like the one you're describing are simply not possible with a game like Eve. Too much of what makes the game work takes place on the server side and there's no way he could have changed server settings to allow him to be ommitted from other people's scanners. This is a simple bug and it happens to everyone at one point or another. Sometimes the scanner doesn't update and you can't detect other ships upon warp-in, sometimes a certain entity is stuck in the scanner list even though you've left it light-years behind, there are many bugs like this. If you haven't encountered them up to this point then you're either too new or too oblivious; either way you shouldn't be flying an interceptor. Lick your wounds and file a bug report if you care that much and if you're very lucky you might be given your ship back by a sympathetic GM, don't go throwing baseless accusations at people.

I had a problem where I could only see specific ships.
I could be in a belt with 15 ships and only see one of them.
Add to that local seems really unreliable at the moment.
Bottom line is sounds less like an exploit, more like a bug.

I to get this all the time, switch from Auto to named on your scanner - 2 seconds - and it clears it up.
That and the big red square is a good tip off
