It's not necessary to use the "James Bond" keyboard. They do have stickies and software.
In fact in China they use the American style keyboards. They type in a romanized version of Chinese that they learn with (because there is no way in Chinese to teach the pronunciation of characters, they use our letters to do this). However, in places like Taiwan and Hong Kong, they have more exotic keyboards because (a) Taiwan defiantly refuses to learn the romanization system that the mainland adopted and (b) Hong Kong people speak cantonese which no one can describe the pronunciation of.
This leads to the unusual circumstance that I, as an American who is learning chinese, can actually type chinese faster than many of my HK or Taiwan friends when we are using instant messenging.
Anyway, just use English in the game and you'll be ok. |

As others have pointed out earlier in the thread you need a Chinese ID number to create a trial. If you can find one that works from somewhere then there is really nothing stopping you from logging onto Serenity from anywhere in the world. Chribba's method of running a TQ client at the same time to aid with navigation was particularly inspired, but I need to warn you that not all menus have items in the same order. :) |

Apparently, the internet is full of stories of how to obtain or at least calculate a shines ID number:
Linkage
Haven't tried it yet, but a chinese client download link, coupled with this link and some research, just might get you the chinese serenity

Are you referring to the Hanyu Pinyin as the romanised Chinese format? It's a more accurate and thus useful way of translating the pronunciation of tonal Chinese.
As to answer Liu Kai's question, for Windows there is a "Regional and Language Options" settings in the Control Panel. You can enable Pinyin to write in Chinese characters. But that only works within MS applications. I have not had any success using it on the local chat so far....

So.. ahem... *cough* does it have to be an actual ID number, or can it be any number that's in the valid format and (yet) unused ?

Hmm... Interesting topic. It's not surprising how much misinformation there is about how the Chinese is input into computer and how the MMOs work there in China.
About the keyboard, We use the standard keyboard as everyone else in the world. There is NO Chinese keyboard, just different Chinese input methods, i.e. different letters correspond to different characters, either a pronunciation or word component. With different combination of letters, you get a word in Chinese. Windows comes with a Microsoft Pinyin IME. That's one input method to type Chinese. Type zhongwen under that method and you get (中文). Simple as that. There are some keyboards with labels corresponding to the specific input method, so you don't have to memorize which letter correspond to what.
There's a law in China to limit minors online time per day playing MMOs. There are a lot of social problems with minors spending too much time online playing games. The ID numbers is required when registering an account to identify whether you're over 18 or not, not to prevent people outside China playing MMOs. There's no limitation to adults playing MMOs. For people under 18, you have 6 hrs, i think, per day to play a game. After which, your characters gains will be lowered, i.e. less exp or gold gained while in the game. A fake ID number won't pass the registration for sure, but you can always google one to by pass that.

That is simple.
Install the east-asian language package for Windows and change your language setting to Chinese and your keyboard setting to convert from pinyin into symbol characters. This fancy convertion program is automatically installed with the language package.
Now you only need to know how the symbol characters are spelled in pinyin. |

I can't even figure out how to get the Chinese characters to not be squares with the character hexcode in them on websites.
Anyone want to clue me in? Google's not been any help, unless I just don't know what to look for. |

Akita - in answer to your question, apparently any valid ID code works. The problem is the account creation software also requires a "valid" chinese name, and you can not copy/paste into those fields. So I'm still trying to figure out how to type a valid chinese name at the mo :p ----------------

You need to enable the Microsoft Pinyin IME, it works for any program in Windows XP, including EVE. With EVE there's a bit of a graphical bug, you can't see the characters as you're building them, but if you use common words they'll show up. |

Unrelated to logging in, but a valid question nonetheless.
Is it called Serenity as a nod to Firefly? Chinese culture was a major factor in the show.
Even if it wasn't, I'll still believe it is
