OK, so I warp into a belt because I see Guristas Loader on a long range scan. I am thinking to myself, "Self, That must be part of an NPC mining party. I have not seen one of those yet." When I get there, I kill a couple Merlin Class NPC rats and then go after the Loaders. Problem is, I cannot get close to them. They stay at 68km from me and I am chasing them with an MWD on constant burn for 1300m/s. So....I warp away and come back. Same thing, except this time they are at 127km. They are only moving at 200m/s. That leaves me with two questions:
1. Why can't I catch them?
2. What the heck are they?

jump into the belt from the other side 8)_ and i have no idea what they are, but in the event that you die, can i have ur stuff? and or their loot :P

i have encountered this problem with a couple of the new mining/belt spawns.
You may as well stay still and shoot at what ever range it says.
Must be some sort of bug.
I have also had the little blighters spinning around my ship so close I can see their ugly mugs. However, scanner still says a stupid distanve away and they don't shoot.

Right, they don't shoot...but neither can I. I was not able to target them. It might be because the range I was stuck at with them was outside my lock range though.

As far as I could tell (broke up a serpentis mining operation one day) they appear to be drones or (really) small frigs- (maybe a broken model?)- that are non agresssive toward you.
anyhow, drones and missiles really ruined their day, whatever they were, luckily mine weren't so quick at running away as yours were

they're npc haulers, for a mining op, if it's inside your lock range, the killing method (for frigate) is as follows
set to orbit at optimal range, wait untill you are going around the lock cursoir (they lack models, or they're badly borked)
when you're going around it, activate guns, you'l blow the snot out of it in about 3 secons
if it's out of lock range, close as fast as you can. and when you start going in circles, slow down, and manually actiate a gun on the shi
ship*
uyou will then lock it, and blow the crap out of it again
this gains you a can full of mins

i had a different problem with an NPC mining op, i did a range scan and found 7 belts, 1 of those belts had the mining op in it, i went to each 1 and did a 1000km scan, and found no mining op, so i re did the max range scan, the same 7 belts, but none of those belts had the mining op at it, was this mining op at a hidden beltor was it a bug?

the blood hauler in blood raider space is using the minmatar rupture ship model and its equiped with large energy weapons, 4 of them that i could detect

I've had angel commanders (battleships) turn tail and run from me and I'm just thinking wtf is it running for. but thats just weird to me. I mean he went from 10k to 68k and just kept running.
