Originally by: Wahful Airon I'd think the Gallente would forego any simple marine gaurds and go for all snipers in the shadows.
Considering how big the Gallente spy network seems to be I'd reckon the would go for discreteness more than bluntness.
hard to use snipers and stealth in a station / ship assault... |

Edit: Would you like to know more?
I'd like to know how the estate of Robert Heinlein let what's-his-name convert a movie that was originally just going to be a generic sci fi war film with bug creatures into a cinematic adaptation of Starship Troopers.
Starship Troopers was the first novel I read as a child, beginning to end. I was pretty disappointed in the movies, from that perspective, though taken in a generic space movie context, they're entertaining.
There was another Heinlein book made into a movie: The Puppet Masters. Not something I suggest people run out and rent. The movie, which is in all likelihood based on that novel, "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (the first one, from the 50's) was much better.
Heinlein started to get pretty weird towards the end of his career, to be honest.

Ive seen the concept art for gallente soldiers, they look like the OSDT from halo cept thier armors are brown and the squad leaders had packs that seemed to help them control other drones.
Its sad I cannot find this picture anywhere though....

Actually, no.
Jin Mei is more like a Chinese name, while katanas are Japanese. Achura ninjas should have katanas :P ---

Well, EvE has space pirates. It's only obvious that there are space ninjas, somewhere. The problem is that they're so ninja that no one knows that they exist.

Edited by: Mithfindel on 03/04/2009 11:34:45 Well, based on what we've seen this far, glimpse there, glimpse here: Amarr: - Line troops aren't likely True Amarr. You'd have a good amount of 'lesser' races fighting for the Empire. Gear would vary depending on the task, though mostly cheap massproduced equipment and minimal protection with the possible exception of camouflage. - Elite troops being brainwashed Kameiras (mainly Brutors brought up to think of themselves as Amarr, but still "expendable" troops - if you're a Kameira vet, the fact that you're alive means you're badass). Similar to the other line regiments, except that they, due to their usual tasks of assaults & similar high-threat missions would have better and heavier equipment, possibly even light armour. Here we'd see smart guns etc. See the Kameiras chronicle for image of "Kameiras in training". - Perhaps few Khanid Cyberknights. Depending on the modification anything from a cyber ninja to walking, talking tanks to a commander with implants for C3I. - Amarr Paladins would be reserved for the high-profile tasks. There's you're pious paladins in polished (power)armour. - Highest officer positions would be reserved to Amarr and the more 'enlightened' bloodlines, though the Army might be a bit more meritocratic than the Empire in general. Separate races form their own regiments, though. - Many second-line tasks would be likely taken care by religious militants. Gear may vary from cloak & dagger to the best of the best, depending which Holder backs them and what they're doing.
Caldari: - Line troops do likely wear mass-produced body armour (which may or may not be actually bulletproof). Pretty much our current-day military level, with enhanced C3I and extrapolated weapon power & armour quality. Exact types would depends on the exact corp, with Home Guard (KK) and Ishukone Watch being top-notch PMCs. (See Masks of Authority chron here - also, this pic.) - Individual units equipped as per their tasks, so here we might get even cyberpunk types. Heavy support including mechanized transport and MTAC ('mech') detachments.
Gallente: - Any nationalities from the vast Federation, might be different if you're from a Jin-Mei unit or an Intaki unit - or, say, a Minmatar unit. Mixed-bloodline units likely from areas where immigration has been high. However, units from, say, Intaki V might be pretty uniformly Intaki. - Right now, the Gallente have a nationalist boom going on due to war, but any pre-war units will likely need to supplant manpower with drones. Hi-tech surveillance units, unmanned armed drones etc., though they do also have their all-flesh commando units.
Minmatar: - Might depend on the tribal background, though the Fleet is/was one of the pillars of the Republic, so they would likely have a uniformly-armed Army (or at least Marines) as well. - Expect big guns. Possibly advanced ammunition types. - Pretty much like Amarr Kameiras. - The much-vaunted Valklear Spec Ops teams were, at least during the rebellion, recruited from criminals. Murderers, robbers, you name it. They might still have an aura of heroes, since rebellion was successful and the victors write the history. They might, these days, actually be a real elite unit.
Edit: Asgeir's thumbnails can be accessed in the following manner: where the link says "thumbnailsXX.html", in the matter of fact the real page is "thumbnails.php?album=XX". Still have to figure how to view the pics, but for example, here's one interesting page: http://staff.ccpgames.com/asgeir/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=12
