I think that when ambulation comes out, if we see Gallentean soldiers walking / guarding the stations they should look like these guys: The Helghast from Killzone.
They have that 'Gallente' look about them no? Mabye with green glowing eyes instead of red. but they look awsome. And Gallente soldiers could look like this if ccp decides to bring station combat into the equation.

Yes I have to agree.
Those picks have certain 'industrial' caldarish look to them. Amarr would be golden stormtrooper or medieval knight ... Most likely all space combat troops would have full body suits, so for gallente something more greenish and smooth with a sensor drone hovering over their shoulder or something like that.
Minmatar, thats a bit hard one but propably something beaten looking and from exsisting stuff something on the lines of fallout 3. Not very jury rigged looking as it's most likely that their space based troops would be equipped properly even if planetside troops might use whatever they can land their hands on to do the job.

I reckon the OP doesn't look Gallente. Nor do I think that's proper for the Caldari. It looks too retro-futurist altogether. In fact, I think a lot of the armed troops and spec ops must look very similar, perhaps with different colors signifying their allegiance, as well as varying weaponry. After all, they're all human and have the same needs and weaknesses. So function > form for worn military gear is my guess. It would possibly not be until vehicles are used that you would notice stark contrasts in design.
That said, the dominant cultures of the four races may affect decals or other minor details. For instance, I imagine the corporate culture of the State makes this concept look quite Caldari (note the decals on the gun).
The Gallente may wear their ideology proudly in the form of trinkets, as well as write messages on bombs and shells perhaps being quite common. |

its a common misconception that the gallenteans were designed to be a bunch of democratic hippies. THEY WERENT. it doesnt mean they cant look cool :P
i think their armor does look Gallentean in design, it has a grey, almost green tint to it. and its round and smooth in nature (just look at the helmet). if it were caldari they would have more straight edges, maybe even plating.
just look at this guy in the background, looks pretty similar eh http://bestgamewallpapers.com/files/eve-online/gallente.jpg

Edited by: Eran Laude on 09/01/2009 19:38:10 Ambulation troops:
Gallente: - Organic-looking armour, probably fairly smooth with bumps in several places, like many Gallente hulls. - High-rof, damage plasma weaponry with a very short range in rifle, carbine, pistol, and heavy weapons formats; attack drones of different sizes to provide recon, assault and heavy weapons capabilities instead of a sniper class; combat knives - Relatively mobile, well-armoured with capability to fight remotely through drones or to charge in for the kill with plasma weaponry
Caldari: - Industrial-style medium armour providing minimal protection with personal shields for troopers - Mix of Medium/low-rof medium/high-damage high-range railgun rifles for snipers; medium/high-rof, low/medium-damage, medium/low-range railgun weaponry in assault, carbine and pistol formats; missile launchers for heavy weapons; combat knives - Best at range, only race to have effective personal shields, can move in with medium-rof automatic railgun rifles if need be but better to get far away and pick targets off with consummate ease, very destructive advanced missile launchers for heavy weapons with a variety of different missiles to fire
Amarr: - Smooth, arching armour designs - heaviest but best-armoured of all troops, have power-armour facility allowing amarrian troops to wield large melee weapons when the battle gets into CQB, but drains power from armour, depleting - Medium-low rate of fire, medium-high damage, medium-range laser weaponry in sniper, heavy weapons, assault, carbine and pistol formats, carry swords of varying sizes for CQB rather than combat knives - Best armoured, balances average laser weaponry with power-armour-augmented CQB weaponry that causes huge damage
Minmatar: - Light armour designs protecting critical areas but providing maximum mobility, equipped with a medium-strength personal shield - Medium-range, medium/high-damage, high-rof chainguns in assault, heavy weapons, pistol and carbine formats; missile launchers for heavy weapons; low-rof, very high-damage, long-range rifles for snipers; Khumaaks rather than combat knives - Can fight at any range with a variety of weapons, highly mobile, weak, but rechargeable, defensive shields, heavy weapons specialists get choice two heavy weapons [launcher and heavy chaingun]

Keep in mind that the Gallente are also influenced heavily by the Jin Mei (my avatar's race) so the Gallente soldiers might also have short Katana-esque hand swords. Which would be incredibly cool to see on an avatar.
As far as general design influence goes, The Gallenete would absolutely have a smooth, organic, and bluish-colored design. Something along these lines, but more blue-greenish, or maybe full-on freaky organic, like the "chigs" from "Space, above and Beyond".
The Caldari would probably look alot like this guy or these guys but with more grey.
The Amarr are pretty easy actually. Think space-suit-ish golden knight's armor. Maybe something along these lines.
Minmatar would be the toughest, since they are a tribal culture and usually have kinda hodge-podgy looking ships. Probanly some freaky Steampunk kind of armor. Like This, or this, but with lots of brownish colored metal and natural materials.
Those are my ideas. Thoughts? |

Actually Ive seen a picture the art director of eve, gallente soldiers are pertty normal looking, the armor they have is rounded though probably designed to deflect any shot that isnt going into it straight on. Squad leaders seem to have backpacks specifically designed to deploy small drones probably for scouting or defense. thier armor color was brown though probably to help match the desert but overall its probably done this way artistically to have it stick out of the picture in contrast instead of having it blend in.
unfourtunatly the site the picture is hosted on http://staff.ccpgames.com/asgeir/gallery/index.php is entirely broken and I cant link it to you guys.
Caldari soldiers would look like the one painted in the story chronicle picture in EON 001 "shock trooper" I think it was.
I have yet to see any picture that would resemble an amarr soldier Minmatar are probably militai like, not sure what a standard army unit of minmatar would be running around in though.

Well it is one of the possible routes they could go - and it would make being from a different race even more consequential in EVE if ambulation is ever fleshed out like this. |

Gallente should probably look a little like this, helmet wise anyways, would probably have an advanced version of power armor or similar. Would be armed with hand-held coilguns, firing armor pericing bullets, with a plasma rifle as a secondary. Maybe incorporing some sort of octo-camo from MGS4?
Caldari; pretty much like the guy on the OP; elitish looking soldier with full black armor. Would probably be armed with a gun that fires homing bullets, like the bullseye in resistance, with an ultra-long range sniper rifle as secondary. Would probably have some sort of radio jammer.
Minmatar: less green and more rusted looking would probably creak alot due to lack of maintanence. Would be armed with an assault rifle and a grenade launcher. Would probably have some sort of laser designator.
Amarr: Like this but in gold. could encorporate a set of wings like an angel? Would be fully sealed off from the outside world, only radio signals could get in - has its own life support system. Would be armed with a laser rifle and a flamethrower. Would have "vampire" attachments, allowing it to draw power from nearby sources, allowing it to boost the suit's armor capibilites and prefrom field maintainance. Would also charge the laser rifle.
EDIT: looking at Eran Laude's post, this would probably only apply to elite or heavy troops seeing as his is more fitting to general tech.
By the way, does it annoy you when you didnt realise that you were reading my sig? |

Everyone will use something practical. There'd be a lot less variation than there are in ship and station design. Just look at the field equipment of Earth's various national armies today. It doesn't really matter what culture they come from; everyone uses stuff that looks similar to what other countries with the same level of defense budgeting use.

All four main factions have "Asian" bloodlines, and the Caldari are the ones with the Japanese-influenced theme. I mean their navy NPC ships are called things like "katana" and "wakizashi". Their names are very Japanese-sounding also.
The minmatar are pretty low-tech compared to teh other race, but they're not "steampunk" by any means. I think they've advanced just a bit past steam-powered engines. Top-hats, polished brass and pocket-watches, are not Minmatar at all. Minmatar would be more cyberpunk or post-apocalyptic.

I'd think the Gallente would forego any simple marine gaurds and go for all snipers in the shadows.
Considering how big the Gallente spy network seems to be I'd reckon the would go for discreteness more than bluntness. |

This, except for the Minmatar, those I think aren't very Minmatar. Honestly, I think the Minmatar would probably have the least armor on. --------------------------- I have to make my own sig break? I'd like to know how the estate of Robert Heinlein let what's-his-name convert a movie that was originally just going to be a generic sci fi war film with bug creatures into a cinematic adaptation of Starship Troopers. |
