Edited by: Admunian on 10/01/2009 17:30:25 The Crow obviously seems to be set more for speed than the Raptor -- but the Raptor seems to have better tackling skills. If I were to go on a roaming run in 0.0 with it, what would typically be my choice if I was only with one other person? avoid hating on this thread for the worst choice possible of inty's :0
Edit** And on that note, anyone have a setup for their choice?

Edited by: Sidus Isaacs on 11/01/2009 20:15:25 I love the Raptor with warp speed rigs. 19 AU/s is nice to get to a target quickly :), the jammer range is even more handt to catch the target. So Raptor over Crow imo. Crow can be a decent solo boat tho, but I rather fly a Harpy over a Crow.

I like this. I offline the cloak when I do not need it (most of the time), its there for other reasons. :P
It don't have dps, but it can get something quickly (note: thats why you need to offline cloak), and makes for good gang ship.
It is however horribly weak if actually shot at, so make sure your gang can get to you :P.

I'd say go with the Crow, if you are only 2 people you'll prolly need every bit of dps you can get.
I've not flown it often lately, but this is what I use, it's capstable without the TD which will run for about 2 minutes:

Catalyzed Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters Warp Disruptor II Tracking Disruptor II, Tracking Speed Disruption

YOu do realise that the malus from the cloaking is applied as soon as its fitted and offlining it doesn't help that ? |

The raptor is much slower and it will be difficult to carry enough cap boosters on a 0.0 roam to be useful. Not a bad crow fit. However, that second nano hardly gains you anything on the orbit velocity over a second overdrive. It is also difficult to keep a MWD and Disruptor stable on a crow. If you have max cap skills and Highspeed Manuevering 5 ignore this setup and stick the TD on. My cheap crow fit is as follows.
[Cheap fit] Overdrive Injector System II Overdrive Injector System II Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Catalyzed Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters Cap Recharger II Warp Disruptor II
TE-2100 Standard Missile Bay,Caldari Navy Bloodclaw Light Missile TE-2100 Standard Missile Bay,Caldari Navy Bloodclaw Light Missile TE-2100 Standard Missile Bay,Caldari Navy Bloodclaw Light Missile
This will keep nearly everybody cap stable, DPS wont be anything to write home about but you should be able to achieve 50 or so. 5 kms at my skills and a speed implant.
I like that 150mm autocannon though, for some reason I had just never thought about it =/. |

Edited by: Admunian on 11/01/2009 21:07:47 What exactly to nanofibers do? Do they increase orbit velocity? having 3 overdrive injectors seems to boost the speed more than having both or none. |

The problem with these two statements is that the Raptor's low speed gimps its tackling ability even in spite of its longer range warp disruptor. After the Raptor got 'buffed' with its third turret hardpoint, I flew it for a while as a blaster boat and it performed reasonably well but it was no Taranis. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

Sorry to rain on your parade, but all ships accelerate at the same rate, so unless you have a HUGE system to cross, you will never reach your 19 AU/s speed. You won't even the base AU/s speed in many systems. (I had those same rigs on the same ship once, but didn't fit them again).

While that is true for one system, it makes a difference when you need to cross several systems tho. :P But I do agree in system they are of limited uses. |

I do have decent skills, but not maxed out, its not that hard to get the disruptor capstable really. But the fit you posted is the way to go if its not stable, I did fly that exact fit a long time and it works great.
The second nano I did choose because of possible inty dogfights, where maneuverablity is as important as pure speed. If you have better agility than your enemy you can easily escape from inty fights if things dont go your way unless you got webbed/scrambled.

I see. I'll have to try the 2 nanos out for a while as I have yet to win a truly 1v1 inty fight with the crow.
@OP Getting the MWD+Disruptor combo stable is much easier if you use a relativly cheap complex MWD. That should definitly free up another mid slot for EWAR and decrease your sig radius. If you are new to inties, I advice not rigging or using expensive mods on your first couple as you will lose them.

The only reason you ever want to use a raptor, is because it's cheap.
The crow is generally speaking far superior in almost every possible way - it does reasonable amounts of damage (for an inty) anywhere in it's envelope. It's faster in real space (fast = good on an inty) and is better off for cap. They both have the same cap and slot layout, but the cRaptor has cap using guns.
There's two things the Raptor has in it's favour - slightly higher scan res (1100 vs. 1000) which ... is nice, but rarely makes a difference. Faster peak warp velocity - almost entirely negated by the fact that ships spend 30s per warp accelerating and decelerating, so it's only on the _really_ long warps that you'll even notice.
Oh, and it has the same slot layout as the crow, too. But it doesn't have the fitting space to fit even 125mm railguns without a MAPC. You can just forget 150s.
Basically, it's a terrible ship, which in turn makes it... probably the cheapest inty out there. Gatling rails are also massively cheap for much the same reason - they suck. |

Actually, the gatling rails is pretty decent if used right, and on teh right ship. (I am not saying that is teh Raptor). |

you're aware that offlining a cloak only removes it's cpu and pg usage, and not it's penalty to your targeting speed right? ------

I am indeed now (it was menioned before btw, in case you missed it.). Its an old ship I had lying around, havne't used it in a while :P. But I checked it in EFT now, it gives me 700 scan res with cloak on, and thats not too shabby tho. So meh, just throw the cloak off if you want the full 1100 :).
