I know that CCP got past and is getting past the economic collapse in Iceland, but I was wondering what people would think if EVE decided to one day have a sweepstakes for an uber-character with every single skill trained to 5 (or at least to 4 and the pre-requisite support skills to 5, i.e. missile launcher operation to 5 since that's needed for cruise missiles), or otherwise hold an eBay auction or something for the character to raise a bit of capital - I'd think that there would be more than a few people who would pay a lot of money for such a char, considering the fact that there are people who pay/play for several to tens of chars every month.
What do you think?

You do know that it takes about 25-28 years to train every skill to 5 correct?
Why the **** would CCP jeopardise themselves like that. It would be suicide. |

I think this is a great idea!!!! While there at, CCP should also give them a BPO of everything in the game, already researched to 100 and at least one of every ship type. And maybe 100 mill of every type of mineral so you have some thing to play with for all your new researched BPO's!!!

the retail value of the character would be around 5000 euros in terms of subscription, in reality the rarity would make it probably go for hundreds of thousands if not a million, but in the end the detriment to the game would be more severe than the fiscal gains, not to mention if the players name ever got out and you know it would they'd be griefed to the point where that character was worthless. ------------------------------------------ Sig removed as it lacks EVE-related content. I think this would be hilarious and awesome but the money should go to child's play or something.
Basically CCP Auctions god.
I donno if it would be that game breaking though. Still only 1 pilot who would just be really good at whatever they chose to do. Also make it non transferable and have the name "IBought ThisChar" forever. |

I think an ebay auction is not the right platform for this. CCP should make SP buyable. Say 50Ç for 1 million SP. That would make sure that not everybody could afford it. But for hard working people like me who have a bit of money, it would be a posibility to gain a well deserved advantage. I would definatly invest two or three thousand euros in my char. Thats not really that much money and its ok for me if i can help ccp that way. |

Nothing is wrong with my ego. Just because some people refuse to work and live from welfare so they can play the whole day, doesnt mean thw working people (who pay the welfare with their taxes) shouldnt get a posibility to overcome that time advantage. I think this is only fair.

Why? The idea is not that bad. Make SP buyable.

Something like that, yeah. For charity is a good idea - could even do a twist on the buddy program, i.e. get a buddy to sign up and you get a ticket in this giveaway for an awesome character.
The point of this post is not to make SP buyable or to make a "1 click easy" button for the children of billionaires; it's not about "pay a $5 activation fee for a blank character or pay $326,230,965.23 for a fully developed character." It's about ONE character to be auctioned/sweepstaked/lottoed off ONE time, making the money go to a good cause (the continuation of CCP/hiring people to code new stuff, charity, etc.) and raising awareness of EVE seeing as how all those gaming blogs always make a post whenever there's a big giveaway (in other words, free advertising). And if you don't like the idea of a noob zooming around in nullsec giving you yet another easy target to blow up, you could limit the giveaway to accounts of a certain age.
One and only one wtfbbqawesome character is not going to unbalance a game with 250,000+ characters in it's universe. |

New to capitalism eh???
You play 5 years, working through all those long skills, then tell me you think that's a good idea.
And no, I haven't played 5 years. But I doubt I would play another 5 weeks if SP's were buyable. |
