I suggested the same thing. a*****pit view. And had the same problems. Wierd language filtering and people who just didnt get what I was asking for.
For those that still dont get it:
1. Move the camera so its facing the front of your ship. 2. Zoom in. 3. Hold down the right mouse button and rotate 180¦
You are now facing forwards without the damned ship in your way.
I want this view to be available without having to hold down the RMB. So I can, for instance, double click. To go forwards.
Id like the same view to be available in fact when i'm "look at"'ing another ship, as its very useful to be able to synchronize headings.

Well, technically its a submarine sim, but thats really got nothing to do with this issue. Submarine or space, we still need a forward facing POV.

Can't we simply have a feature then, if we zoom in really close it hides the ship being viewed?

I dont understand the fixation that some have in associating our desire for a front facing view with a full on 3d rendered in-cockpit view + twich based steering control.
I dont want joystick / direct steering control (well I do, but I understand I cant have it). I dont want in "inside*****pit" view - I understand that all teh views are delivered neurally to the pilot in an enclosed pod.
All I want is to be able to see where my ship is pointing without my (or any looked at) ship in the center of the screen interfering with the view - and interefering with my ability to double click exactly where I want to.

It doesnt have to make sense. It is the prime fiction.
The pod interface is how a single player controlls a whole battleship.
Presumably pods arnt needed to fly something as simple as a shuttle.
Also, battleships do actually still have crew.
But you - the pilot - youre in a pod.

I have a horrible suspicion the response was to the thread title. Which does seem to be asking for an inside-cockpit view. Which is not what we want is it? :/
