Russian? Wtf? Russia, is certainly not part of "europe", even though geography might disagree with me. Since we're talking about languages and exposure, strict geography is not important.
If you want to major languages of Europe it's Italian, to add on that list, in stead of Russian. |

I'll come up with more latter.
easy spelling too
I found my grade 3 report card in my parent's basement a few weeks ago. It said "He does very well on formal spelling tests, but fails to transfer this knowledge into his writings." |

You call them po-tar-toes? Or is it the tomato pronunciation you're getting wrong? |

What I don't "get" is the justification for language teachers in schools in England making out learning a foreign language (which in UK means French or maybe German) to be such a big deal. Unless you are going to be talking to foreigners regularly - and that means, maybe, 10% of the people who learn it at school level at the most? - you are never going to get a chance to speak it apart from maybe a couple of weeks each year on holiday somewhere.
Sure it can be interesting, and its an academic discipline to study (like say maths or physics or literature), but for most people it ain't gonna be the life changing career defining thing the language lab people make it out to be. 'Just seems to me a case of them pushing their product. |

It would help with labour mobility. Multilingual Europeans can work in neighbouring countries (even within the same company) for a stretch far more readily than people from the UK, and they take advantage of it. Meanwhile people in the UK are basically stuck on the islands complaining about other EU people coming across. They would not be complaining if they could hop across and work a contract or two themselves as easily, but most cannot.

No. English is not the best language and we should keep all the others. Would you learn the language other than English? :P
I'd just like to point out that the Canadian/US border is the largest unguarded and unprotected international border in the world. The so called border guards are nothing more than Walmart greeters.
I'll give you guns and rigged elections though. --- My cat Putter approves of this post. |

Don't say that, they once had me get out of the car and answer some questions!
