No you've got it all wrong....
Everyone should have to learn to speak languages according to the exposure that they could have in the area they are in, so if europe, English, German, Spanish, Russian. In the states it would be English, Spanish, French.
Or at least American schools should require people to be bi-lingual.
Many if not all American schools DO require their students to take a second language course but its not a state or federal requirement to pass it.
I also disagree with your belief that everyone should have to learn the diffrent langauges according to exposure. Each country should have an offical langauge (ironicly the USA DOESNT have an offial language at the federal level) and enforce its schools to have that langauge be taught to a point where someone can be understood decently in that nations borders. |

Each language has its own difficulty but no grammar comes close to being as complicated as Arabic and Farsi. While it is possible to master Western languages at middle or high school one needs to attend university and study Arabic and Farsi to master them.
And that Wikipedia link just really ****ed me off. Persian, as a language, doesn't exist, it's called Farsi. Do not link Wikipedia as some credible source. The only good thing in this article is the 'Other estimates' column. |

I thought English was pretty easy to learn back in school... But then again, it did have my interest. German however... Meh..
I find it hard to believe that English should be one of the hardest languages to learn 
I bet theres a lot of languages which takes more effort to learn.
On a side note, I've heard from several people that Danish is hard to learn. Cant say myself though, as I'm born with it |

OP needs to be more specific as theirs more than one form of english... Theres english and bad english also ebonics english and coming soon to a continent near you texting english in other words instead of laugh out loud you have LOL. Just imagine a world where people walk around saying lol or imo or /me waves and further down the line the mouth will be removed because of evolution use it or lose in other words and the only way to communicate would be by sign language if u know it and or wearing a big helmet that can read ur thoughts and display em on an LED screen.... Think about it |

i speak both english and french . but ive noticed because of the latin connection i can generally read italian and spanish as well .

i had to learn french in school and i wasn't too bad but it was a pain to learn and to me the way it was just wasn't logical to me but meh im english and i cba with any other languages lol

English is neither hard to easy langauge to learn. There are languages far easier, heck, japanese is probably far easier, it has alot less vocabulary and it's more contextual. There are also languages far harder: portuguese for example. |

if things turned around differently a few centuries back, you would all be talking portuguese now
...or spanish... or french...
and not quite on being the hardest one.
example in portuguese is the word "destino". it can mean 3 things: "destination", "fate" and "destiny", although "fate" can be also translated into "fado", wich is also the name of a music type aswell.

not that dutch is much better on that account though, gorkum is also quite hard to find..
Also potato should be pronounced just like tomato (and no I will not even go into american english)

English is the best language for the following reasons:
1. Flexible. If we don't have a word for something, we make a new word.
2. Already spoken by a larger number of countries than any other language.
3. Gender neutral, promotes equal rights for women, don't need to remember what gender a flower pot is.
4. Already accepted as the language of international commerce, unofficially, of course.
5. Short alphabet with no accents, but still capable of emulating foreign words.
6.
I'll come up with more latter.
P.S. If you're worried that we won't have enough words for snow, we can just take them from Inuktitut.
