So IĈm trying to figure out how Cargo works while mining.
IE: Hulk It has 2 low slots and 2 rig slots and 8000m^3 space base If you put Expanded Cargo Hold II in each of the low slots they each give a bonus of 27.5% If you put Cargo Optimization II in each of the rig slots they each give a bonus of 20% 8000 * 1.2 * 1.2 * 1.275 * 1.275 = 18727.2m^3 cargo space right?
Also Mining Drones: The Hulk has 50m^3 of Drone Space
Mining Drone II: Volume: 5m^3 Capacity: 1200m^3 Mining 25m^3/cycle
Now is the capacity how much they can hold before they have to deposit in your cargo or is that extra capacity that you can use to be more efficient in your mining?
Containers: Huge Secure Container: 1500 Volume 1950 Capacity So trunc(8727/1500) = 12
New Capacity = 24127.2m^3 right?
However those containers can not be used while inside the ship correct so I would have to jettison them and mine into them then come back with a hauling ship to collect the ore right?
IsnĈt this dangerous because canĈt someone just blow up those containers while IĈm away? And do I need to purchase a new one every time or when the hauler comes can he pick up the can and then I can put it back on my miner? How long will they float out in space? Do I run a risk of loosing everything if IĈm not quick enough?

Drone space cannot be used for mining. You are correct about the formula for max cargo space. I don't have a calculator on hand to doublecheck your final numbers, but it looks right.
You can squeeze in extra containers (giant cans work better than huge ones, same compression ratio, less cans to open) and leave them in your hold. The problem is that you need enough space left over for your mining cycles. So don't fill up your hold with cans. If you fill up the cargo space you lose the excess, I think (mining missions are different, just don't lose a full mining drone and you don't lose ore). So if you're micromanaging your ore, you can shovel it around by opening the cans in turn and moving ore in.

I would like to stop you here, and mention this. From reading your posts, it is obvious you have been through many MMORPGs, have ground your way up to max/high level characters, gotten bored and switched to another game. I'll just give you a heads-up now, that this is NOT how eve works. There is no maxing in eve. You can be training your character for many many MANY years, and will still have things you want/need to train.
Eve is also very well designed in that it is nearly as enjoyable at the start as it is 4 years down the road. Don't rush yourself. It's my opinion your friend did you a disservice by giving you all that isk. Take you time, learn the game. more importantly, learn to ENJOY the game. THEN, worry about what the MAX cargo, or MAX yield, or how to mine in a titan. |

Yes they do, but they cost 300 million each (if you can actually find someone to buy them off)
go for Cargohold Optimization I the give 15% and only cost 35 million
so you end up with
8000 * 1.15 * 1.15 * 1.275 * 1.275 = 17,199.1m^3
Use GIANT secure containers equals 17/3 = 5 (rounded down)
5 * 900 = 4,500
17,199.1 - 15000 = 2,199
Huge secure container = 1
1 * 450 = 450
2,199 - 1500 = 699
Large is 650 m^3 (to 780m^3) so another one of them
So you get
17,199.1 + 4,500 + 450 + 130 = 22,279.1

Incorrect, you don't have to jettison them so they can say safe and secure inside your cargohold, when they are inside your cargohold just right click them all and go "open container"
However that does mean that you'll have no room for the actual Ore being mined, so jettison one can, anchor is, password it and it will stay safe in space for 30 days before you need to unanchor it (then you can safely either re-anchor it straight away or scoop it up)

The biggest difference you will see in EVE from other MMOs is that 99% of what you do has an opportunity cost that is most often very significant, especially when approaching problems from a min-max perspective.
e.g. Unless you absolutely require the capacity offered by the cargo optimization II rig, (I actually can't think of any situation where you would require it) at the current value (~350mil) there would be no situation where the benefit over the lesser rig (5%) would outweigh the extra cost (~320mil).
With potentially major real losses both in assets and liquid investments, the only place where you will be using min-max strategy will be in particular skill training, but even in that case there are many skills where there is a heavy opportunity cost to training them to L5. (e.g. training Learning to L5 will only benefit you if you play EVE for at least, IIRC, 3 years)
Oh! but, *tosses a Toblerone*

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know that Cargo Optimization IIs cost so much.
I didn't just level to max and be done. Each MMO I played except WAR I played for 2-5 years. I like to set goals for myself and work towards those. IE: I used EVE Mon and set a plan to get me into a hulk.
The mining in a titan thing was half serious. I knew it was obserd but I also was trying to think how I could mine the most possible ore when I: Go to work, Go to School, Go to Sleep etc.
I am really really new at the game and I see things and try to figure out the best way to do things. I realize that some of my ideas will not be possible which is why I ask and look for help.

In eve, the best way to mine ore when not online, is to mine the market. You'd be surprised how fast buy orders get filled for below market value (even below mineral value)...

Read this guy's other thread. It's worth it for the lulz.
