Reading the E-ON 14 we'll get 5 racial ship components with a skill attached to it the better the skill the better your ship component functions.
The ships will be cruiser sized so it's safe to assume that in order to learn the racial component skills you'll need to meet t2 cruiser requirements. T2 cruisers are specialized ships that require a second skill next to cruiser 5. I'm going to assume that the pre-req for the hull components will be cruiser V.
Cruiser V is approx. 30 days training.
If the 5 racial hull skills are going to be rank 1 then it will be 35 days of training on top of that.
If the 5 racial hull skills are going to be rank 2 then it will be 70 days of training on top of that.
If the 5 racial hull skills are going to be rank 5 then it will be 140 days of training on top of that.
etc. etc.
Given that HAC and logistics are rank 6 skills and battleship rank 8 skills, logic would assume that the racial hull skills are going to be rank 7 skills (approx. 195 days to lvl 5 them).
Orrrr 30 + 195 / 30 = 7.5 months of training just to be maxed at using the hulls.
An average eve player stays with eve for 7 months. Also it's safe to assume the hulls will be pre-nerfed to hell and only be usefull once you've lvl 5-ed the usage skills.
Yes, it's all assumptions based on the E-ON info provided but jeah well...

I don't see a problem
Seriously speaking though, no player should go even close to T2 within first 6 months, let alone T3. For their own good. |

Edited by: DrAtomic on 13/01/2009 11:42:31 The issue I have with it is that realisticly it will boil down to 2 years of playing eve to be able to fly tech 3 somewhat and prolly 3 years to be good at it.
Edit: no issue for me I'm all set, and so will most old players be. I'm just worried it will further the gap between new players and old players to the extend that it will not be possible to train your own character up anymore. So new player stragegies will boil down to create character grind billions of isk and use that to buy an usefull character. |

It takes, i know, WoW comparison...almost a year to be "effective" at 80, hell, casual playing will take a year to GET to 80 in WoW.
MMO takes time.
T3 in EVE will be the "end goal" of sorts, ship wise.
It's only fair it takes time to get there, least it be worthless. |

I thought t3 was just the embodiment of throwaway cheap t1 setups with out the t1?
You mean they are actually making it BETTER than t2?
Thats a mistake. |

It may possibly take 30 days to train Cruiser V from scratch. |

Count the pre-reqs on top of it. BS V takes 53 days including pre-reqs. |

Well I would sure hope they were skill based. And if you make all your content attainable to a player within the seven average months they stay with your game you're doing something really friggin wrong, especially in a game where all skills are time-based. Not having very long-term goals for very long-term players is just short-sighted and lame, no two ways about it. There's an awful long list of things that someone can do in seven months anyway, but don't add a potentially game-changing feature like T3 to that list please. |

I sure hope t3 is skill based, with new skills and all that. Ill be coming on 3 years here in a few months, and im wanting teh new skills to unlock some new toys, rather than just slightly improving my old toys =p
I also hope CCP decides to keep the R&D ingame for this one, i really see no point in having to peice all these ships together if you can just spend a night on eft working things out. Make it so that 'industrial' corps have something to do besides watch lab timers, and stare at roids. |

Edited by: Tippia on 13/01/2009 13:14:14 Yes? So? Lvl V always costs more than it's really worth.
Quote: Also it's safe to assume the hulls will […] only be usefull once you've lvl 5-ed the usage skills.
Not really, no. If they're pre-nerfed, they'll suck from lvl I through lvl V. Nowhere in EVE is that last skill the critical threshold to make some piece of equipment useful, except as prerequisite to get to use the piece at all. Unless they went nuts and added exponential level bonuses, I don't see anything safe about this assumption. |

I don't think it will be only Racial hulls. I think T3 will have much larger variety of skills affecting a "hull module" for example.
let's imagine a "dronehull with missiles"
Gallente Cruiser V Mehanic V Drones V Caldari Cruiser V Shield operation V Missiles V Gallentean Starship Engineering V Caldari Starship Engineering V Perhaps drone and missile manufacturing skills V Industrial V
etc. Stop whining. |

Not only that, but at least in Eve-Online your guaranteed to get there over time, unlike the majority of other MMO's if you cant login and play X amount of hours per day you will NOT get to end game period! And dont even get me started on folks that NEVER get the chance to participate in large raids in order to have that so called 'ellite' gear that the casual player WILL NEVER get, unlike Eve-Online which allows EVERYONE equal opportunity!!

Its been stated many times, there are diminishing returns when training to level 5 i.e. time versus gain. Good thing its just an ASSumption based on YOUR behalf!

but then again, why should the average player have access to the most advanced spaceship technology in the universe?
...although i wouldn't be at all surprised if the t3 skills' primary attrib was Charisma.
