I think both you and Krixtal Icefluxor are right in saying that I shouldn't be friends with those who disagree with it. Although I think my biggest problem is trying to explain it to them, as most people are quite stubborn in the belief that there is two rigid genders. Though some of my closest friends know and accept it which I'm happy with - most of us are far left wing and a few don't consider themselves 'male' or 'female', so it doesn't tend to be a problem. It's just you always get those few that are hell-bent on causing trouble and sometimes it's easier to aviod it then confrount it. But yeah, i'll take your advice on board As for the religious view, I study Theology and the Philosophy of Religion so I've generally been able to put down quickly any hate that comes from that side of things (which is very infrequent, only the vocal minority that tends to be outspoken against things like that)
