I've had this EXACT same problem a couple times, but it only seems to happen when I try to dock. I'm using a P4 2.6, 1GB RAM & Radeon 9800 Pro if that matters. -

I again have the exact same problem... it only started recently. The error that is recorded in my error log is:
Event Type:Error Event Source:DCOM Event Category:None Event ID:10003 Date:27/07/2004 Time:10:49:24 User:N/A Computer: Description: Access denied attempting to launch a DCOM Server using DefaultLaunchPermssion. The server is: {00020906-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} The user is Unavailable/Unavailable, SID=Unavailable.
IT always is a DCOM error as well... and only when you move around in eve... you can sit for hours in the same space... move into warp and you have had it...
Maybe a confilct between MS latest patch and EvE?

I've got DCOM services turned off - apparently it's not needed by the vast majority of XP users.

great thanks :) I used a small programe called DCOMblob that killed dcom anyway - thats how I know its not what eve hates...
Comp still reseting when playing eve... randomly... had to restart 5-6 times for a 30 jump trip the other night...
Something else happend as well.. only when playing eve... my USB Contoler drivers for some reason unistalled - so I was left with no mouse and no connection.... most strange.
CCP... HELP again :) please... I just want to play for hours.. :'(

Yup, seems to a common problem but so far the devs have not said anything about it. It's most annoying, so much that i don't think i'll be subscribing :(
Not to mention that they don't take switch now!

Edited by: Qwakrz on 28/07/2004 22:43:44 Ok guys and gals, thought I would do some digging
DCOM is the main point of attack for BLASTER and the varients of this nasty little worm. Being attacked by it can cause DCOM to fall over with a blue screen, complete re-boot or a nice little shutdown message (that never gets shown as eve sits ontop of it). Because DCOM is classed as a major component of WinXP, when it is asked to terminate windows will follow suite and shut down as well.
Suggest
1. Running with a firewall. XP's is ok for this & works fine with eve. 2. Applying ALL windows update patches, including SP1a (this problem was fixed a LONG time before the blaster worm appeared). 3. Virus checking your PC and run a background scanner (Norton AV 2004 or McAfee. I never turn mine off even if I am told to as it will not affect anything except virus's. 4. Remove any spyware from your PC
Stop jumping to the conclusion that eve is the problem.

Edited by: Robskiwarrior on 28/07/2004 23:13:18 Edited by: Robskiwarrior on 28/07/2004 23:10:57 Being an IT desktop monkey I know about the blaster worm and also that it was made obsolete by the Welchia version, (uses same weakness) being that if blaster installs itself, welchia comes along and removes blaster and takes its place... lol must be a virus coder in joke or somethin...
Anyway, my susspitions rose to DCOM becuase it left a log in the error logs at exactly the same time as I rebooted... Since beating DCOM with a big stick until it blead.. (disabling it) the error has not since returned in the error log, although eve still causes my machine to reboot or loose USB drivers...
My machine is running a firewall and virus protection always, not stupid enough to go online without them lol.
The problem must be with a eve either in the program itslef or the the latest XP patch not agreeing with it. I cant see it being the XP patch as the last one was installed weeks ago, before the issue arose. The only other explination is another security hole that a hacker is exploiting via the port eve uses, to send remote commands to us suckers hidden in eve netcode, although not being a coder or hacker I would not know how well, if at all, this would work...
So in answer to the 3 queries...
1. firewall is running, and always has been... I even locked it down to only alowing eve to access the net... still reboot...
2.XP cant be more uptodate :)
3. Virus checker and resident shield running and upto date.
4. Aint no spyware (spits) here. lol
So we/I am not jumping to the conclusion... it is something to so with eve... we just dont know what. The definate reason I know its something to do with eve is it only ever happens when I play eve. I can play/do anything else on or offline works fine... eve = POP! :'(
Thanks for the digging though :D most help we got soo far!! :D

Yeah this issue is realy starting to **** me off now ...
I'm running Norton + a firewall as suggested and it still happens ... As a few of you have said 'Only' when im playing eve ... no error messages computer just resets instantly :/ sigh.
Found an interesting point ? Im sure its something that is picked up while playing eve as if you re-install Eve you can litteraly play for 8 - 9 hours ( :p ) without it happening.... then it will occur again :( ... And after that its a lot more frequent ... I litterally managed to play for 15 minutes this morning :/...
As you can imagine I myself and im sure others resent paying allmost ú15 a month for a game I cant really play

i have the same problem, and this is just when playing eve, no other game or app craches my computer, its so strange, i have tried new drivers and old on my Nvidia card, right now using a clean install of 53.03 detonator drivers, those are supposed to work ok with eve.
Still no solution, im guessing i have to format my comp, and install everything anew, however ill wait abit to see if someone here has a solution.

Well I fixed my problem. Turned out the fan on my power supply had broken and while the ambient cooling was fine for all normal operations that I use my computer for, Eve sent the overheating over the edge. Makes sense considering the CPU usage Eve requires I spose.

Are you guys getting a BSOD restart or just a restart? Check if you have configured your computers to restart on such an error. If you have, uncheck this checkbox and look at the error message displayed on the BSOD.

There is a way, as you most certainly know, to DISABLE windows XP to restart when a critical error occur. By default Windows XP restarts when a "critcal error" occurs ( usually, but of course not always, a "critical issue in this catgory is memory related ). By disable this function you will prevent Windows XP to restart when a "critical" failure occurs. Now, this will probably NOT fix the reason why your eve-client crashes, but it will most certainly prevent you computer from doing that annoying reboot.
Hope this will help some of you to some extent.
Yours sincerely Magnus. A.k.a Darkcore.

I have rebooting problem only when quit eve client. I upgrade my memory from 256 to 512Mb and problem in first seems to be solved but then occured again when play eve 2+ hours. Sometimes I minimize eve client to tray and do refresh a few times before quit client to avoid rebooting.
Must say it happend after I format my disc. Before formating worked fine and have most winxp updates. I will try to update winxp again. Maybe this help.

Originally by: Moneta hi there, got a new pc: p4 3.2 ghz 1024 MB Ram Nvidia FX5200 card the usual extras
Now something entirely screws up my eve. On random occasions, sometimes after several hours of play, sometimes after only so much as 30 mins of it, my PC will crash to complete shutdown. When it does, it automatically reboots but 99% of the time doesnt get past the initial stage of reboot (XP won't load).
Can anyone tell me what the problem here is ? Is it overheating of the cpu ? Is it a memory issue ? Is it a software issue maybe ?
I don't get it, tried cooling the cpu more with extra fan, changed and checked cables and connections and it still does it.

This is from another thread i started before seeing this one.
As you see, ive got alot of Ram, and it seems to ocurr less with me then with others here. I have a FX5200 card so its not ATI for sure.
Next to this, I also only get it with Eve, and only after some time. More session changes seem to speed things up too.
One more thing: ALL i have installed on this brandnew pc is Eve, TS and some old, clean games. Nothing dl'd form the net, no spyware (checked), no shareware, no p2p programs, no nothing.
My old pc (p3 384mb ram, gforce2) never had this issue at all. Originally by: Aneu Angellus Iv held back from posting on this thread for quite some time, but i think the time had come for me to come in and post.

tried newest nvidia xp driver (out juli 27th) as well as the old ones advised above, no go. still got a reboot after about 50 mins of play.
Did a full memtest via memtest bootdisc and got 100% pass, no errors in memory.
Just ran out of ideas. If cpu temp, graph drivers, memory arent it, what is ? Originally by: Aneu Angellus Iv held back from posting on this thread for quite some time, but i think the time had come for me to come in and post.

My computer used to do it all the time, normally when loading up or in the middle of playing most games. It even decided to restart on loading up a site. I get a message saying windows has recovered from a serious error blah blah..
Also when loading up windows and logging on I get a message saying unable to find bridge.dll, I click ok but nothing seems to be wrong, any ideas (not eve related just curios as to what it is)

I just bought this game yesterday, and the reboot problem has only occured once. An other problem I have, is that the game shuts down with no warning whatsoever. It just crashes to desktop, and it happens every 10-15 minutes of play. Kinda annoying. I checked the support section, and I have tried everything CCP suggests. I have updated drivers for graphics- and soundcard, checked for Parite virus, removed all spyware and did Windows update - but with no result. Anyone got a clue? I sent a mail to CCP support, but doesn't expect a quick response, I reckon they have enough to do with all these XP-problems.
I also use GF 5600, so no exclusive ATI problem here either

also still getting this same problem for the last 2 months now. It's not just eve, as this has been happening to me running other games too. I have auto restart switched off and whenever I get the BSOD it points me in the direction of nv4_disp.dll - an nvidia file. Searching google for info on this reveals page after page of people experiencing similar problems with no consensus on any working fix. VBut clearly, from this post, it's not restricted to nvidia cards anyway.
Haven't a clue what's going on, but I'm hoping sooner or later someone will come up with something.

Yup, my PC starts to hang when I play EVE
I thought it was an over heating issue of my hard disk at first, but I've now moved it to a location with a dedicated fan. Right after I performed the move, booted up eve and all seemed well, then all of a sudden Eve closes, and now it won't run any more :\ Any one else with this SERIOUS problem here?
I guess ill try reinstalling

I had a FULL session last night!!! (of eve that is...)
I think I nailed the problem (for me)
It was my onboard sound card, I was using it as my soundcard as I had not popped my SB Live! back in... Now I have, not using onboard sound, no issue... (yet)
As this was only one session, I am not saying I have completly fixed it yet... lol

i hade the exact error, my machine rebooted all the time, only when i played EVE. i changed my gfxcard from a geforce3 TI 500 deluxe to a lousy geforce4MX and now it works fine, but my old gfx card was much better ingame (has a reason..) so if anyone solves this problem once for all i would be happy to know :-)
info: i have tried everything mentioned above, changed soundcards, checked temperature on devices, check fans, reinstalled windows 10 times, tried different window versions, tried new disks, completley check my box for viruses, enhanced my firewall, so my conclusion is that its EVE-gfxcode rellated.

Edited by: Scorpyn on 05/08/2004 13:37:28 It appears that none of you have upgraded the drivers for the motherboard chipset. Do that.
Also, you seem to have missed and/or misunderstood the posts about disabling the windows restartinsteadofshowingbluescreen behaviour. Right-click on my computer -> properties -> advanced -> startup and recovery -> uncheck "automatically reboot".
In some cases, an older driver is a good idea. Try downloading a driver from the graphics card manufacturer instead of the chip manufacturer, or try any of the old recommended drivers (53.03 for xp/win2k or 53.04 for win9x/me if you have a nvidia graphics card).
Make sure that your fans are not clogged with dust, upgrade directx (latest is 9.0c), upgrade your sound drivers, run all windows update stuff (even if you got all the latest updates there may be more updates that updates the stuff you updated just a minute ago that weren't visible yet because they needed the other updates to be able to be used).
Before you upgrade any driver, uninstall the old one first (and reboot before installing the new one).
DirectX 9.0c can be found here.

This only seems to have happened after a recent XP update.
I am running: Directx 9.0c altho 9.0b never gave me any grief Forceware 53.03 on a Geforce FX5900 Until recently a CMI8380 onboard (replaced with SB Live after i thought the bug might be onboard sound issue) Via driver 4.51 XP up-to-date apart from SP2 which is released this wk.
As for a solution, I havent a clue, it only happens like once or twice a week.

This is probably the reason for the reboot for most of you if not all. It's a really nasty bug and it might just work to disable sound in EVE to be able to play. Or disable the soundcard. It has been with us for a long time, and i thought it had been fixed, but it seems it hasn't...

Now my pc doesnt reboot anymore, but it gets a critical BSOD001 error at random intervals, freezing XP and forcing manual reboot.
I'll try playing around with the sound drivers now, the error seems to indicate either a memory problem (tested it fully and no problem with my ram), or a driver issue (wouldnt know which driver then. Hmmm, I had this issue for about 4 months after activating my account. I rebooted at random loading sequences (docking/undocking, warping, jumping). For me there were four things that I had to do to fix the problem for good: Disabled that reboot on critical error thingy that was discussed above
Increased my RAM to 512 from 256
Updated my BIOS
Finally, I rolled back my drivers for my Radeon 7500 to Catalyst 4.2
Whether it was all of this or only the last, I don't know. I do know that as I changed things, it decreased the frequency of the reboots. After I completed the last of these, it finally went from rebooting to CTD, and the incidence rate for that is vanishingly rare now.
By the way, to do that last step I had to actually get rid of the uninstaller for the Radeon drivers and reinstall the uninstallation program, it was not running properly, so the first few times I "updated" my drivers it actually didn't change anything. Well, wanted to let you guys know that I was convinced it was EVE, it was all the fault of the ebil devs who don't care about us, but it was actually my system that was causing it to crash. It really sucked, because I had worked up such a rant that was never used. One suggestion for you guys who still suffer from this: run your log server to see if anthing is recorded in the game about this, then send in the resulting file when the system reboots. It is happening with Eve for a reason: this game does not like something on your system. Windows has a program that reports problems of this nature Microsoft so they can design better-working software. The Log Server serves the same purpose, if we use it correctly. The more information the devs have about such conflicts, the better guided their advice will be when it is disseminated through ISD, and perhaps they can even address this issue directly through patches to the client.
Happy Eveing, for those able to Eve happily. To the rest, well, take heart for there are many who have successfully fought their ways to Eve through such difficulties, and they have been amply rewarded
