Seems discussion about Ore thievery or ore relocation or whatever is ragin around forums.
I'm mostly a miner and completely accept ore thieves as a part of the game. However I hate them IC. Some time ago I remember reading bout a guy who found out a way destroying an ore thief with the help of NPC rats. Tho thieves seem to operate nowdays mostly in +0.8 so that is hardly a commonly good tactic.
Have anybody found out good and "legal" ways figthing these guys? Also if you have some cool stories encountering ore thieves would be nice to hear them
RAH and CU!

Ore thieves are the scum of EVE... They are the most lazy players around...
The only way to fight them is to not let your ore sit in a jet can, you combat them with Indy cargo space...
Considering how lame the capacity is of secure cans, just use more Indy's...
If you're mining solo, you're kinda out of luck if you don't want to use secure's...

The first and only time I stole ore was in my second day of playing Eve. I saw someone (possibly female by name) mining in the distance and a trail of cans leading from me to her. Since she was quite a way distant I grabbed some ore and headed back to the station.
Feeling smug I posted into the newb corp channel (dunno which one now I was fresh out of Hedion University). The first reply I got was "Yes, I know. That was my can" :)
This was back in February and I haven't stolen ore since. Well - not like that. I have from time to time come across a can sat on its own with ore in and helped myself. Usually there's only a few units in the can suggesting someone ran out of haulage space.
As a miner I take the same view as you. I choose to use jet cans and I accept the risk. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Ramming them is always fun....I sometimes do this just to **** them off. They still get the ore but they have a hard time getting away. Targeting them tends to shake some of them up too and if nothing else it lets me keep track of them better.
I mostly mine with an Indy standing by though so they rarely bother me...

hopefully colossal cans will put ore bandits out of business or better still allow ganged miners to be able to dump straight into their waiting indies...at the end of the day though as miso points out if ure going to jet can mine you have to live with the consequences

Just make people able to attack and kill those who open named containers without concord intervention in .4> space. Since only the container owner can rename container, this is a very easy solution. This will get rid of good amount of ore thieves.

I can't see how they are more lazy than the safe-space macro miners they steal from tbh.
Miners don't work hard, neither do ore thieves. Miners don't own the ore they take from the belts unless it is in their ship or locked away - if they decide to jettison it after going to the effort to mine it, that's their lookout.

Edited by: MooKids on 28/07/2004 14:08:37 Use secure cans, there, problem solved. Of course this will fall on deaf ears because it is the LOGICAL solution!
EDIT: Forgot to add, CCP's official stance on ore "theft." -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

I can understand that you miners don't want to use secure cans and getting a % of your ore stolen is probably still worth it over using those bastard cans but what I don't understand is why you mine in 0.8+ space if this bothers you this much? Just go into 0.4. You'll both find better ore and can have fun killing the rats that try to take your ore. So it's both more profitable and more fun... I don't see what the problem is here. 0.5+ space is only for noobs, traders and mission runners any way. If you're not in a noob ship or your first frigate (that isn't the noob ship) then you will be able to fight the npc rats without problems.
