I was hoping that I could get some help in settling an argument between a buddy and I concerning the ships and the race bonus.
The question is.
Do you have to be of the same race as the ship to get the race bonus?
Thank you for your help.

IVe never seen race bonuses, only Ship Bonuses.
The ship bonuses go per Skill Level, no matter what race.
For exmaple: if a Caldari Frigate Gives you a 5% shield bonus per Frigate Level then training Caldari Frigate to lvl 4 gives you a 20% bonus. It doesnt matter what race is flying it. ---------------------------

in short no, race bonus applies to all races, it's just the race of the ship's skill so to speak

More succinctly. There are no race bonuses.
There are simple some bonuses that, for who knows what reason, display in the ships description rather than the skill description.
If, for example, the Spaceship Command: Gallente industrial skill contained the text: "Grants a 5% bonus to Industrial cargo and speed per level" it would be so much more clear than its current location on the ships description.

well with I.E amarr battleship the two different battleships have different bonuses, so that's why it's like that I guess

I wondered about this race bonus too. I thought that as a Minmatar flying an Amarr vessel, ( Ammar Interceptors), I wouldn't get the race bonus, but to be honest, i haven't noticed a difference from flying other ship. Has anyone else noticed this

The Inty race bonus is for having that race's frigate skill at 5 rather than being the same race as the inty type. Its better than putting +5% per level of frigate skill when u have to have level 5 to fly it

There are some definate pros to putting the skill bonus description on the ships description: 1. It keeps the skill description from getting clumsilly polluted with many special cases. e.g. Gallente Cruiser: "5% more drones on Gallente Celestis, 5% more range bonus on Gallente Thorax, 5% more uberness on Gallente Vexor. 5% more manlieness on Gallente Exequora. 5% more hybrid sexiness on all Gallente Cruisers". 2. It also means - from a DB / programming design point of view that altering the bonuses on ships / adding ships dont require people remember to go and change the description on a skill somewhere.
However, speaking as a player, the EVE interface is kinda laggy, and when im going through my list of skills ingame, doing a show info on each to see what bonuses I'll get, its kinda easy to forget that *this* skill has hidden bonuses that I need to look elsewhere to find.
At the very least - froma UI usability point of view - the skill description should include text mentioning that there are specific skills on Gallente Industrials and the player should go and examine the specific ships to see what the bonuses are.
