Well im getting into an astarte in a few days and am a bit worried that people talk about have slow/unviable it is for a lot of situations which say a sleipnir can handle.
Yea it does a lot of DPS up close but how hard is it to actually get there. How good is the tank, how strong is it what can it take etc etc.
Need a full review lol.
Thanks

Anything up to battleship size is what it can take on.
I dident tank my Astarte though, flew my neutrons and medium ecm drones. |

I've slapped an Auxiliary nano pump and a nanobot acc. on one of mine, to get that extra repping power. With dual MAR II's in low, exp. hardener, eanm and a dmg control, you still have room left for a mag stab.
with the usual mwd, point, web and injector mids, that leaves you just enough grid to squeeze in a couple of neutrons and then ions for the rest. More neutrons if you go Modal instead of tech II. Wit AWU 5 finished and a powergrid implant you may even get mostly neutrons.
This setup does ok damage, but more importantly, it tanks really well for a tech II tank. When I went after a lone mega camping a gate, his friend in another mega jumped in, and their falcon buddy logged on, I was still able to slowboat almost 10km back to the gate, de-aggress and jump without blowing up.
It was not an amazing feat of nberness, I'll give you that, but head-on attcks from two blaster megas is not something you expect to get away from alive in most other ships.
So while most people say to gank fit your Astarte, I am more inclined to say do a little of both. "He was quite mad and knew it very well, but being mad he did not care" |

First off i am going to say this: 1. You pay for your own account and i have no right to tell you what to fly and how to play the game. 2. I am not flameing you even though it might sound like it i am just curious. ( see 1.)
Rant On: 1r. Why do you want a very expensive command ship to close to blaster range. The Brutix does that job very good and it is so much cheaper. 2r. For pve you can get a domi for less then a command ship and it more dps and tanking. 3r. For small and large gang for pvp the command ship really shines in useing its gang modules to buff everybody, so you lose alot of dps. If you want to have a dps battlecruiser the brutix is really good at that role. Your paying alot more for 1 more low slot a little more cap and ehp. You can say a Brutix can also use gang lniks but you can buy a brutix and outfit it for less then buying a Astarte. 4r Solo pvp Why solo in a command ship when you can buy a domi to solo in it is alot better at it.
Rant Off
Now for the question i would you to answer please if you will: Why do you want to outfit a Astarte for dps when there are better and cheaper ships you can get? |

Astarte is black (it still is, is it?) and has zomgwtfbbq eft damage.
I could imagine, assuming the warpin is set up properly, that I could get a massive e-hardon from applying that damage.

It's yellow.
If you can fly one well and can afford taking the ISK hit, by all means go for it, but the Brutix really is the cheaper alternative that does the same job (albeit slightly worse but costs a lot less). I love my Brutix. But if you can afford it, go go Astarte.

depends on usuage.
you cant go all gank without having a **** poor tank, or go all tank and have great dps!
so depends on situation, if for example you are at war alot, or dec other people it is an epic tool for camping stations and to a lesser degree gates, as you know where they will come out (in the case of stations) and they could undock several cruisers into your face and they would fall so quickly its shocking.
and for a gate u would not have 2 far to go.
but on a roam or fleet, with alot of moving into range needed, and no idea if you will need that tank or gank, its not the best choice!

Same can be said for the people who are using Marauders in PvP. Some people just seem to be able to make a t2 ship immortal, making up for its extreme cost. |

The comparison is invalid, though, because Marauders are different in one crucial way: there are no bigger ships (subcapital) that one could upgrade to. For Command Ships, the option exists: Battleships. Is there something Command Ships do better than Battleships, other than use gang modules? Not really. In theory they would be better against cruiser sized ships due to medium weapons but in reality Battleships have heavy neutralizers at their disposal aswell as more damage to start off with, aswell as range. Command Ships are not fast enough to catch cruisers which combined with the poor range of medium close range weapons makes them questionable at the anti-cruiser role. And even if they were good at it, we must ask the question of whether such a role is needed or viable in any but some marginal situations.
In conclusion, I do not see many reasons to choose a CS over a BS for any situation, especially if that reasons is not to use gang mods (in which case Fleet Commands would be preferable and Field Commands obsolete). I have CS V personally and all races' cruiser V's but I prefer BS, sadly, even if flying them would be fun (although for fairness' sake I do also have all BS V's). I would recommend focusing on BS skills for now, until CCP addressess the lack of a proper role for Field Command ships.

The Astarte is a expensive toy, and doesŠt stand a chance against gank BS(even less in QR since the Neuts become like required to general PVP use).
The Astarte realy get shafted as the Diemost got her needet boost in Agility and Speed, since this one actualy made it a halfe deacend ship. The Astarte still is not much faster and agile than a BS what is a real knock out point for short range Blaster ship.
While Nighthawk, Sleipnier and Absolution can acutaly can make up with it with a bit more Tank or Speed the Astarte realy isnŠt tanky(even with the Dual Rep + Resistance Fittings). All it got is DPS at short range and this is better done by BS in most of the cases, leaving it in a battlefield where BS simply outdo it at his role. Like the Diemost the problem isnŠt tank in my opinon it is simply gank what it is lacking(1000 DPS in a gank Setup is not actualy impressive for a Blaster CS that have to play in the same game as gank BS operate) the DPS looks impressive on the first view but is a lot to low to other ships you could field for the same purpose. ---- Nerf Tank - Boost Gank!

Blasters are fun weapons and do hilarious damage on with the astarte, the problem is you often dont get in range quick enough to use em since your so slow. The other problem is youre a preffered target as a cs is quite expensive, and youre always within scram, web and neut range pretty much ****ed if thing go wrong.
This is why i prefer rails on the astarte, sitting it bit further out still doing 500-600dps while being in a medium sized ship with an godly tank.

There is no reason to fly an Astarte. Anything that you can do with an Astarte, you can do just as well in a Megathron.
Once you properly fit an Astarte with armor rigs and a plate it's agility is reduced to the point that you might as well be flying a plate BS. Since QR it's lock speed doesn't make a bit of difference when compared to a BS.
It has far less capacitor, far less capacity to sustain being neuted, much shorter optimal range for it's guns, and half the EHP and half the tank of a BS. Due to the web nerf it's guns can't track targets at it's optimal (inside 1500m).
TL;DR: it sucks.
Did I mention it's uninsurable and has very little tank (comparatively)? |

Its a good (although expensive) replacement for a Megathron if you don't yet want to invest time in t2 Large weapons. Also the "Its cheaper to fit a battleship and do more dps" argument doesn't apply when you fit it for less than a Hyperion and do more dps. |
