Just wondering where the eve populace stands on this.
I say Star Wars, with the disclaimer that I ignore the existence of episodes 1-3.

Sadly, even when you Ignore 1-3, I'd say Star Trek, simply because its much more realistic
Though I must Point out, You need to ignore both Ep 1-3 and "Enterprise" for this argument because if you add them in, Babylon 5 Clearly outclasses both (and does so anyway ;p).

Right, because comparing psychobabble with technobabble in terms of realism is the way to go They're both so bloody unrealistic, I've seen B-rated movies with a stronger feeling of realism than several scenes in both.
It's like comparing apples to oranges anyway. They both have their strong and weak points, they're both entertaining, so why even bother arguing one's better than the other ? Star Wars has the better overall atmosphere, and it's a series of motion picture, so the overall plot sort of ties neatly together. Star Trek has sheer length going for it, so they could tackle a lot of issues during their long run, it's obviously going to seem better to long-time watchers. I'd say it's a lot like Dr.Who - the first "Doctor" you watch was "THE Doctor" and the rest were not so good - so it mostly will depend on wether you watched Star Wars or Star Trek first in your life, not much more. |

Star Wars
i'll use a christian analogy.
episodes 4,5,6 are kinda like my 'new testament' (the important stuff)
i also recognize the exsistence of episodes 1,2,3 as well as the 2 starwars movies for kids (caravan of courage and the battle for endor). this is not to forget the starwars christmas special cartoon and teh 2 hour starwars christmas special aka 'starwars on acid'. lets not forget the clone wars dvds and the new clone wars movie. these are the 'lesser' starwars chapters or what you could call my old testament. yeah, its there, but we dont consider it important.
did i miss anything
this isn't to say i dont like the original StarTrek and STtNG and all the movies, but Roddenbery doesn't hold a candle to Lucas. |

I used to think Star Wars was great until I woke up one day and saw Luke for what he was: a pathetic weakling. Luke needed a good beating by daddy Vader to turn simpering little noob into a real man.
"Weeeeh, I'm going to tell my daddy you're picking on me." "I am your daddy you little whimpering girl, now shut up and be a man." "Mummy..."
Jean Luc at least was a real man and was assimilated by the Borg. He then went on to go on a massive Borg arse kicking spree. He never whined and cried, making him my favourite. That, of course, is discounting Kirk and Spoch.

He also looks better, talks better, and probably smells better than Kirk.
Considering how much of a womanizer Kirk was he probably has some kind of alien space STD. --- My cat Putter approves of this post. |

Star Wars, usually. I enjoy the Trek movies, but could never drum up any interest in the series. Any of them.
That said, games are my preferred medium for entertainment, and while there are quite a few good Star Wars games out there, the Trek creators don't really seem to take gaming seriously. |

Both.
But like someone else said - apples and oranges.
Star Wars Ep 4-6 are among some of the greatst movies ever made, whereas Best of Both Worlds is one of the best TV episodes ever. You cant compare movies o movies as the Trek fils lose hands down - The Trek movies are let down as theres been so many, and more bad than good. If you had 12 films all to the level of Wrath of Khan, or First Contact then it might be a contest.
And Picard wins at Captain.
It seems what my wife said to me the other day is true - I am such a nerd. -------------

I love both. The Alien franchise is also cool. I don't care about realism, I'm in it for the storytelling. Hope they make a movie series out of the Ender books too.

They're both great. People hate on Enterprise, but it was entertaining for me. Voyager was a bit meh, tho.
Star Wars has a much more expanded universe, and it's on a bigger scale, at least. Also, there's quite a few great Star Wars games. (Pre-cu SWG, anybody?) |

Star wars. Mainly because everyone doesnt run around calling for peace and confusing me with technobabble that always gets summed up in a short easy sentence starting with "Just like a...". FFS why didnt you say that rather than spend 5 minutes reciting the dictionary!
Also in episode V the good guys lose badly while in star trek every problem gets solved in around 1 hour or if its very hard 2. However I do like the origonal star trek simply because you are garenteed a punch up, good looking girls in mini skirts with legs that go on forever and red shirt deaths.

Star Wars, mainly because it has a more "epic" scale than Star Trek. Star Trek was also really good too (mainly original + TNG). Games wise Star Wars wins hands down. It has one of THE best ever flight sims ever in TIE Fighter (I can't believe someone hadn't mentioned it yet). Great gameplay, great graphics, and a great storyline.

TNG was the best... DS9 and Voyager had their good moments. TOS and Enterprise were just meh, and the movies felt more like long episodes than actual movies. I look at them that way aswell.
Also, Q rocks.

IMHO
Both of the shows are dead to me
i liked the prime material for Star Trek better but Star Wars had the better Expanded Universe
But seeing as the prime material died with Star Trek Enterprise and most of the Expanded Star Wars Universe imploded due to episode 1-3
I am happy to say Battle Star Galactica (the new NEW version) is the sci fi show for me and further more why do i even need a sig? |
