The Funniest thing about this conversation is that you can clearly see who is an american and who isnt.....
Those who have to learn it go hey your spelling **** wrong and have poor grammer..
And we who grew up with it dont give a rats ass about spelling and/or grammer.

I still make a lot of mistakes. It's just that I don't really care these days.
What? You don't care about your GD posts? That is madness! EVE-Online General Discussions forum IS serious business. I put on my serious business suit and take out my serious keyboard and have all my posts scrutinized by a professor that has a PHD in serious business. To do otherwise is a mockery of all in which CCP and the interbuttz stands for.
I lick you.

actually glad you mentioned that, really in a multicultral game with so many different nationality pilots, Phonetic spelling should not only be tolerated, but the norm.

Originally by: Scarlet Pimpdaddy I have noticed time and time again that people in this forum often misspell the word lose as 'loose'. I can see that there may be a phonetic reason but it really isn't that hard to spell.
Lose and loose are two different words and have two different meanings. I also appreciate that not everyone speaks english as their first language but I have just finished reading this thread by a guy who speaks english perfectly yet seems incapable of spelling lose properly.
Has anyone else noticed this or do I need to get out more/seek counselling/go back to WoW?

Probably for the same reason that people say the word comfortable as if it were spelled comfterble.

It's "grammar", not "grammer". Oh, and you forgot apostrophes. Ellipses are not a valid replacement for periods. Oh, hell, I give up.
Oh, and I'm an American who happens to care about being able to write a proper English sentence rather than coming across as semi-literate.

Oh and "Should of" instead of "Should have" is my pet irritation. ---

I have to disagree and say that, by far, the most loose and laziest grammar and spelling comes from those that call Britain home. Up unto the point where I'm sometimes almost convinced that it's as intentional to cause rage as is most all of the scams in contracts are to cause grief, which, i might add, ninety percent of I believe originate in the same place.
What is it about you that makes you relish in such things, anyway? Bah never mind. Go flip a can you poor failures.

I bet you still bastardise the spelling of colour though =P
I try to make my posts legible - that's what matters to me. If there's a few mistakes, that sucks, but as long as it doesn't make my post less understandable, I don't really care.
Sure, it's a text based medium. I'm also time-poor and while I make every effort to type correctly, mistakes will happen. |

Better still, a built-in spellchecker that FORBIDS posting if the misspelled words are above a certain threshold. There's a small game called CarnageBlender where the forum works exactly like that. Oh, and bad posting (as in, breaking the forum rules) comes with an IN-GAME CASH penalty

Edited by: Major Deviant on 18/01/2009 12:29:57 In my teens there was this song from REM that was number one in the charts for months, "Losing my Religion". You would be surprised how many people spray painted/worte that in walls, subways etc as "Loosing my Religion".
No internet(in its current form) then, so do not blame the net or the forums. Blame lack of knowledge of the English language, mild form of dyslexia, laziness, hastiness, no proof reading...
Edit due to not proof reading what I just wrote...

I can get by with bad spelling, long as people understand each other. My pet peeve though is people who pick unspeakable names, hint |

Saddest excuse for being a moron who cannot spell the most basic english words I have ever COME not came ----->came<----- across. I wasn't talking about in game at any rate. We all make spelling mistakes there as time factors are an issue. My point is that in a forum, where you have time to construct your thoughts and sentences, some people are incapable of spelling the most basic words. 'I pay to be an idiot' is a pretty lame excuse.
GET YOUR TENSES RIGHT MORON.
see what i did there? stfu |
