Hi, I was wondering what would be the uses of this probe. It's scan strength is very low, so probably only usable to find cosmic anomalies. But they can be found anyway around planets most of the time. I don't recall finding a cosmic anomaly out in the deep space far away from planets, although I use a crossing of different bookmarks when scanning for sites, so that scan probes overlay around planets, thus scanning with high efficiency the space around the planet, AND most of the deep space.
So, I as anyone with more experience than me, if you use Observator Deep Space Probe I for anything, or if there is another use for it that eludes me right now.
Thank you, Asagi

They're used to find people at deep safe spots.
Your scanner goes ~14 AU. If they're at a safe spot >20AU (spook probe) from any celestial object, then an observator could find them.
Well, get you close enough to use spooks/snoops.

Incorrect, low scan strength is horrible for finding sigs, since they have a very low signature. Low sig = ship probe. If you use an exploration probe to find ships, you WILL find them on first try unless they are in a deadspace area, and even then they are relatively easy to find.
The ship probes are Snoop, Spook, Ferret, DSO and...can't for my life remember the name now. Those probes have longer range than the explo probes (shortest is 5 AU) and have significantly smaller size (can't fit explo probes in Recon Probe launcher) and VERY much less scan strength. Their sole purpose is to scan down ships in space.
The DSO probe is an insane range probe with a lol strength, designed to give a "near miss" on anyone in a deep safe, so that shorter range probes with higher strengths can be used to pinpoint the target.
Balance is important, but you will always adapt to changing circumstances and you don't whine about stuff you can't change. |

To be fair the OP said Anomalies and not Signatures. Even in 0.0 anomalies have a pretty high signal strength - much, much higher than exploration sites.
Just throwing that out there :)

Wow, nice answer Ancy Denaries, I have to admit I never thought of using such a probe for finding ships in safe spots, I'll have to remember this next time. Thank you all for your answers. See you in space :)
