Edited by: Lothendra on 23/01/2009 23:15:46 Is there any point in the client playing random annoying background sounds when I have "Load Station Environment" disabled?
It never used to in the past, but now its just annoying.

if you think it is a bug why dont you help ccp and put up a bug report and see if it is. if the noise is annoying you then you can disable it from the ESC menu and disable sound by the click box, or alternativy to off you speakers, turn the slider down.
until it is confirmed weather it is a bug or not |

If you think it is raining why don't you help your weatherman and look outside to see if it is. If the rain is annoying you then you can deflect it from your head and carry an umbrella or, alternatively, don't go outside and sit here and troll a bit more.
To OP, it's a good point, which I have wondered about but haven't thought about asking further until you got trolled. The "Load Station Environment" seems to not work in a lot of ways - loading the annoying floodlights irrespectively or ignoring the fact that you are in a ship at all are two particular bugbears of mine.

My ship, would be nice. I know I won't be able to do the spinny thing but I'd be able to double-click to open my cargohold and/or not have to open the Ships tab just to remind me what I docked in.

I dock and all I see is the background - no ship at all (but it's inconsistent). I still get the floodlights blinding me on their rotation, perhaps to reassure me that the client hasn't hung, but I only get this if I unclick "Load Station Environment". (So I've not entirely hijacked the OP!!!)
I know I'm not alone; I've seen other posts with the same effect. It's not worth bug-reporting because it's such a minor thing, but it's an annoyance just the same. I just hope that someone from CCP has noticed the same and it's on their list of "we'll have to get around to that someday" bugs.
In the meantime I'm sure the Premium-lite release is more of a priority for CCP and perhaps this will address that indirectly anyway.

i hope they get lite on the test server soon so that myself and a few others can see if our back up machines which i run a second client on can handle it.
but it means quicker stuff for the future so it is a good move |

I bug-reported it before starting this topic. Apparently it is "by design, go away"
All I would expect to see is a freeze-frame of my ship, no sounds except for helpful ones like skill training completion, and no bloody effects of someone welding or drilling or god-knows-what.

YOur pod makes all the sounds in eve. So why on earth would disabling the visuals disable the audio
There'll prolly be an option for it sometime in the near/far/never future though.

I'd like to see a static interior background with a single frame render of my current ship.
What I actually get isn't so simple. I think what we get is a fully rendered 3D object (sometimes the ship is drifting slowly toward its resting position).
Every time a container is opened the ship is rendered again. More often than not causing a change in the entire palette so that the screen changes colour. For some ships it results in a change of position. The Rifter gradually rocks from side to side as containers are opened. You can actually use containers to choose your preferred angle of tilt
I've bug reported most of this a couple of years ago when it started. The triage team claimed that they couldn't reproduce it. C'est la vie. Another great success for the bug reporting system. |
