For the same much reason that even though we allow people to work for money, you can't buy slaves.
Although the transaction is superficially similar: exchange money for labour, the moral, legal and ethical implications are profoundly different.

I have a question that will answer your question.
Why doesn't the UK print off another Billion pounds and send it into the economy rather than spending our taxes? |

ccp doesnt sell isk because it would mean they would have to artificially create it and thus devaluating the isk allready in the game. when people sell gtc's no new isk is created. instead the isk allready in game is just being transferred between characters. |

They do, via GTC, I find that pretty borderline to unacceptable. One of the pillars of most MMO's are, Real life cash should not give you advantages. Though being able to hold several accounts fall into that category it has to be accepted, but trading GTC for isk is in my book bad.
Buying 100 billion isk on E-bay, no good. Buying 100 Billion isk via GTC, totally ok.
Not in my book! But ok, I can accept it, but only COZ: It means more income for CCP, and that result in more devs employed which again result in faster development of this fantastic game! |

it is acceptable once you consider the other real life factors that influence the virtual wealth. especially the "time" factor. Some people have the unfair advantage of alot of free time over others. during this time they can accumilate wealth in the game when other people have to work. gtc trading provides a balancing mechanic between money- and timerich players.
if you were to completly isolate real-life factors from eve, then you'd also have to limit how many hours players would be allowed to play the game per day. |

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 24/01/2009 13:39:55 If they would sell isk there would be an offical, acknowledged link/conversion between ingame and RL currency. That's a big nono for several reasons, one of which would be taxation on ingame items. |
