I think it would be very helpful to be able to take a "snapshot" of market data and save it to a CSV file in a directory in the cache folder. The file would be named based on the date, time, and region/constellation/system/station name. The CSV data would include product name, bid and ask values, quantities, etc... That way prospective traders could import this data into spreadsheets and develop some sort of analysis methodology (and save a whole lot of writing) based on historical analysis. Some players could even sell their services as commodities analysts, providing trends and "hot picks" of the week.

I was going to suggest something like this too.
I was also thinking of suggesting that what is saved is only the data you're currently looking at in the market, that way the server isn't getting bombarded with requests for the entire market data of a region by lots of traders, as the data has already been downloaded! :D
This would make trading between regions a lot easier.

I have looked at some of the .py files and it can't be hard to add. the buypanel.py file seems to be gone now with the market revamp but i recall seeing one loop in the code where you would just need to write the data to a file.

I would realy love to see exports of the Wallet. Both the Journal and the Transaction logs. All that data is nice, but I can't do anything with it. I can not get a feel for how well are my "investments" doing.

Well... I would also love to see this feature... This could really help with calculating trade routes etc. I know because I developed a rather advanced trade-route calculator for MS Freelancer. ________________________ Drak Triak |

Bump for an excellent idea.
This would make the market and the game a lot more dynamic and interesting... not to mention making accounting a lot easier.

If you could add that option for Export of the Market data for the Region you are in, and the regions actually attached to the region you are in, at least we could go off ourselves and work out where there is a supply and demand.
It just doesn't work well presently, there are too many errors and miss-information in the current market display.

unbump! bad idea! that would support tools which would allow people just show best markets in ur region. would scare noobs who dont use that tool, would ruin markets and so on.
even if i know it would our lifes dam easy, i know it would ruin the game too.

Come on now. This feature sounds good to me. Do you really want a game catered to no0bs who fear complexity?

At least I would like to see an ingame listview of demand and supply instead of the maps. You just don't get the easy overview with the map as you would get with a sortable listview. ________________________ Drak Triak |

"Come on now. This feature sounds good to me. Do you really want a game catered to no0bs who fear complexity?"
The problem here is that by automating it like this, the whole trade system becomes a whole lot *less* complex. It will be about a day between this being enabled, and someone posting it up on a website. Then all you'd have to do is log in, go to the site, wee what's good for selling, and off you go. You can happily ignore items that aren't currently high-ticket.
And then the idea shoots itself in the foot. By making it easy to pick the best trade items, you are limiting peoples choices to the 'top' items of the day, and one by one, each 'top pick' will be ruined.
The best way I see of doing this is to leave it as it is. That way, the people who put in the effort get the rewards they deserve.
Otherwise, it'll just be a race for items, and the experienced/talented traders will fall from being 'good' to just one of the spreadsheet crowd.
This is my 'I'm tired and at work' outlook on the situation, please tell me if I have completely missed the point or something, I can live with being wrong. .

Well drunkenmaster, what I see as the main issue with the current market system, is that it is tiddious work to find the best places to buy and sell... You have to run your cursor over each and every little green dot on the supply and demand maps to get an overview. And if there are many dots you might forget where you spottet the best location. As I also stated in my prevoius reply is, that I think it would be a good idea to make some sort of list view of demand and supply. With multiple sortable columns, so if I for instance wanted to buy water, I could just choose water and go into the supply list view. There I would sort descending by the price column, and I could easily see where I should buy my water. Hope you understand my point. ________________________ Drak Triak |
