This is actually not so much about "client lag". The real problem here is that, instead of giving a warning "hey, you're trying to take stuff, are you sure?", it flags. Which shouldn't happen and is a bug.
op, don't just petition it, file a bug report :-)

1) dont use the jetcan mining technique 2) if so, assume there is a risk 3) if a can flipper appears, just fly away or admit your ore is lost (specially if the dude is 5000meters or nearer). If he is like 20km away then take the ore but do it quickly :)

This is completely incorrect. You, and your Corp IF in a player Corp, will get aggression rights on the "can flipper" the moment he/she removes the ore from your can to theirs. Please read the OP careful and the subsequent replies. The issue here is the "hauler" "accidentally" "stealing" back the ore with out meaning too.
If you have had a situation where someone stole from your can with out them going "flashy" to you first check that the can they were stealing from was infact yours (not some alts that you forgot wasn't in the same Player Corp, or some other "can flipper's" that you missed while afk or some such), second, that you do not have an overview bug (drop your overview down and re-maximize), or third, that there isn't some lag issue (wait 30 secs to a minute).
If none of this situations are the case then there is some bug in progress that you should petition immediately.

I think that best way is not to open the can after the flipper is around.
I mean, if the hauler had his can opened, Im 99.9% sure he can safely take the ore in this can as its HIS can, no matter what the pirate does.
Once the dude has flipped it, a new can appears. DONT open it :) |

isn't that one of the few client-side check?
client lag means that, you don't get a warning because for the client that's still your stuff. it send to the server the technical message "GIMME THA STUFF" and the server replies "YO DAWG" and add "YO FLAGGED MAN, PEACE" seconds later. _______________________________________________ 10100110010100101010011010100101001100101110101 I will Conquer My Signature Somewhere in the future 10100110010100101010011010100101001100101110101 |

it's a shame ccp will let this bug go on until the outcry becomes overwhelming. how much time and isk must your players lose before it is important enough to fix?
taking something out of a can, without opening the can first, needs fixing.
also confirming it's totally impossible to use this exploit to make duplicate ore of your full jet cans so don't bother trying..
or is it ?
see what i did ? |

That's my whole point. I had the can open when he appeared and tried to get as much as I could, he can flipped while I was trying to press teh OK button because I couldn't hold all of the ore. I never clicked on his can, I never opened his can. but somehow I stole from him.

I had the exact same thing happen to me yesterday.
Petitioned it today but so far all I got was "logs show you stole from him" and that they would look into it further. All who have experienced this bug, pls petition it and make a lot of noise about it.

Well, I for one believe this is a serious exploit, and it should be dealt with. If that doesn't suit your personal agenda that's too bad.

Well, I simply reproduced the EXPLOIT with a mate of mine today.
Here is how it works: get your hauler (or any other ship prolly) a nearly full cargohold. Then try taking out more of your jet can than your hauler can hold. The pop-up message "cargohold full yadayada" will appear with an ok and cancel button. If at that moment someone steals your ore from your can and you press the "ok" button, he will get killrights on you and NO warning message "you are about to steal stuff" will appear.
My mate took the ore out of my can, I waited a few seconds (pop up about full cargohold was still open)then pressed ok. I got NO ore, cause my mate had already stolen it, and after a few secs he goes "oi, you're flashy blinky to me!". He then webbed me to find out if Concord showed up, they didn't, as far as the game is concerned it is 100% legit kill rights.
Only it isn't, it's a friggin bug with much potential for exploiting |

How about, don't restack it when you toss ore into a jetcan. Then each little icon is 1 holds worth. No dialogue box.

Regardless of what the individual posters believe about this situation, I just don't see how demanding CCP be responsible for the various player's individual ISP issues is even an option.
What, I hear you cry, that isn't what I'm asking for....
Actually that's exactly what those of you crying bug and exploit are demanding. This is an issue with your client's connection to EVE through your ISP. Go cry to your ISP provider and see what response you get. |

Even better than that, I live in London and have cunningly rented a flat next door to their server farm. I'm in the process of cutting a hole in the wall to tap their gigaflop goodness. Lag free play, here I come! \o/ |

Damn, as a British citizen living in the US I just hadn't thought of this... time to make moving plans...
Damn it though, I've lived in the US for almost 25 years now, if I move back now everyone will call me a Yank....
Ah the dilemmas, but lag free EVE is worth it!

No, it is not, I can reproduce the bug every single time. If you get the "cargohold is full yadayday" pop-up, and someone steals the ore you were trying to transfer to your hauler and you press the OK button after the guy has stolen the ore, you will not get any ore (cause it has been stolen) BUT the thief will get killrights on the hauler. So for NOT taking your OWN ore out of your OWN container the guy who stole it get's killright on YOU! Go try it if you want. I even waited some 5 seconds a few times to make sure it wasn't a lag issue. So don't give me any microseccond lag talk either :) |

Anyway, a bug report has been sent to CCP about this, apparently the GM's can't escalate this to QA themselves. Let's see how they react |
