The game may be free, but will it really be? Or people will have to be subscribers of PLUS to play it latter on?

Because, well, if beta is only for PLUS members, the beta is kinda of "paid for".

Update 1: CCP CmdrWang Just confirmed that Sony is sending out 5000 closed beta keys to their testers which have access to the current beta build.

Update 2: Current state of the beta is pre-fanfest build which is rather old and is used for stress-testing mostly. Sony needs to approve another big patch for DUST 514 and once they do Fanfest attendees and others will be able to get into the beta and start playing newest build of the game. This will happen during the next week or so.

Also people like me primarily play on the superior consoles and play eve casually... so chill with the "zomg ur not the market " crap.
i simply want to try the beta, see if the game is worth keeping a PS3 for.. if its not i can sell it to my friend and get a new PC

There seems to be some confusion about the recent beta key distribution by SONY and I would like to clarify some of the misunderstandings. The beta keys handed out recently are for SONY's beta tester group and their job is to stress test the DUST client and servers. This is done so that we can identify major bugs and issues and address them before we open the doors to more players. These beta tests have been on-going for some time now and have been very helpful in improving the game.

We are also in the process of implementing a major patch to the current build and this should be done in very short order. Once we have successfully implemented the patch, we will be letting those with fanfest 2012 redemption codes in first, and then broaden the number of beta players later on.

Finally, we are whipping the hamsters to build a DUST 514 general discussion section on the EVE forums so that in the future we will be able to make announcements such as these to you all sooner. Once again, we thank you for your interest and support for DUST 514, so keep on posting and don't stop believing!

The fact is the majority of exclusive EVE players will get stomped on by console shooter players. when you do have ur mouse and keyboard for fast easy aim, its another world, in fact in dust you will be in my world if you play and i promise you that you will lose that fight and any fight you come across the clan G|C.

I bought a PS3 just for Dust.

I'll admit it, at first I was a little "wtf" at that. Checked my mail as soon as I heard that Beta videos were being leaked and didn't see anything, was like "Huh. Well that's disappointing." Saw that eve-player/fan-festers didn't get the initial 5000 keys and was a little irked.

Then I saw a video on youtube of a guy who literally compared it to Halo and treated it like it was just another FPS.

So I realized: I wasn't angry that I didn't get a beta-key, I wasn't upset that Eve-players/fan-festers didn't get the keys, I was just discouraged that it was given to people who don't know anything about it and haven't done their research into what it is. Just a bunch of guys who saw the icon and decided to give it a shot, then compare it to everything they already have instead of understanding what it is.

Bought my Playstation 3 two days ago because they said that the keys would be released in April. I dunno, not so much disappointed with how it played out as to ignorance of the people who -are- playing it and not appreciating it for what it is.

I play Eve, I have a PS3 and I'm a PLUS member and I didn't receive a beta code. The thing to remember about Sony beta codes is that not everyone gets in on every beta. I may still receive a code or I might not. The thing is, I'm not really looking for one. Dust is a FPS and I can't play them due to motion sickness. If Dust was at least an over the shoulder shooter then I'd be interested.

This is the EVE Forum. All content is supposed to have something to do with EVE. The ISDs happily lock threads that don't have anything to DO with EVE, yet these Dust posts proliferate.
