CCP is asking for us to support the tournament more, but audio only = zzzzz. So, they post the vids to YouTube, and they didnt even bother to do it in high enough quality that they are even reasonably watchable.
CCP.. this makes ppl less interested, you lose support this way.
If this is the last tournament then its nobody fault but your own CCP.

the RP events were always pretty crap though, and there were the inevitable complaints of GM bias ...blabla eve tv will be back for the finals though, so it's not all bad news!

Im looking around and I can hear gunfire. Oh here is one comming down. This one is comming down in flames. Somebody has hit a german. He is going down completly out of control. There is long trail of smoke. Pilot jumped with a parachute. Its that Ju pilot and he is going down straight to sea. And there he goes. SMASH. Terrific.

sorry to say..but eve tournament matches without video stream coverage are somehow pointless - i don't want to read about it or listen to a guy screaming about whats going on, i want to watch it. i know there are allways arguments against it on the filed, but its that simple: show it on a stream or just toss a coin who fights in the finals. the second point is: there are no tournaments every week ccp has to pay for (streaming) - and i think i can expect that once in 6-10 months the streaming costs should be in while paying 15 bucks a month.
you dont need any experts sitting around, you dont need any bla bla people talking in between the matches..just 1-2 guys explaining whats going on and a stream :D

Edited by: Afuliae on 25/01/2009 23:25:42 I wonder if the commercial television channels are intending to cut back their offerings to radio broadcasting only in today's economic downturn.
CCP showed themselves to be at the forefront with EveTV. Its death shows a lack of vision. This coupled with attempts to cover events with audio commentary, a medium superceded many decades ago, shows a significant misunderstanding of how, at the most rudimentary of levels, to nurture a developing cash cow.

Support the show by watching it :)
no offence intended here but...EVE TV was mainly only focused on via tourneys andfanfests...the daily/weekly shows were never THAT interesting sadly :(.
Sorry if I have given you the wrong impression. My continual refrences to the tournament and eve tv were not supposed to make you think I am refering to the weekly tv show. I am specificly talking about the EvE tv coverage of the tournament and how i/we can help increse the amount of coverage next time.
oh no no wrong impression given. I just preferd eve tv with the tourneys and fanffests. they seemd less serious and were more light hearted -------------------- My Videos.

I watched Eve TV, I thought it was cool and interesting to view. I liked the tournys when they were broadcasted live with video footage. I was rather irritated that the alliance tourny's were only audio Loved watching the ships n all the pew pew that was going on. Now it's kinda like watching the superbowl in full on black out mode whats the point in the superbowl when you can't watch it as radio can only do so much. |

its a bloody shame they aren't broadcasting a videostream, however nice the efforts of the radio guys are, lets face it, **** it...
i was actually very much looking forward to following the tourney again, hell even sparrow the faildigger inspired a slight smile on my face occasionally.
The alliance tournament broadcast was pretty much the biggest marketing tool in CCPs arsenal, i cant understand how the hell a game depending on marketing more than most other MMOs would would forfeit its single biggest event all year...
im not asking for a full cast being accommodated in dead broke iceland for an entire month, but ffs, give us videostreams atleast.
Radio however nice it is is not the format to broadcast a tournament of this sort....
/me so very disappointed, sad pandas everywhere, BTw nerf falcons ffs....

I suppose the audio commentary is better than nothing, but it is hardly an accurate description of what is happening. Half the time the commentators take off on a tangent during the match and then all we get of the action is "oh a ship just blew up." This is usually followed by an expert analysis of presumed setups (usually not even analyzing the actual setups used).

No interest ? there's thousands of people listening to the audio stream and more alliances than ever competing (and alot more wanting to but not making it in)
SKY IS FALLING, THERE WON'T BE MORE TOURNAMENTS RABBLE RABBLE talk is really dumb and premature, especially since we haven't even seen the interest in finals weekend yet

Personally I have had plenty of fun listening to this tournament.
Sure, audio commentary is a little skewif at times, but then video commentary was a little skewif last tournament anyway (since, if you recall, the commentators couldn't properly see the top shield bar of the top ship, so we could see if it was getting shot at but we could not) - and they certainly went off on plenty of tangents back then. Commentators always drift off the point. That's part of what commentators do. |

In my opinion this reveals an efficiency problem with the medium CCP has used to broadcast the fights thus far. When you play EVE the servers do not send you the frames displayed on your monitor. Instead, data representing the state of the game around you (i.e. ship types, locations, headings, etc.) are sent to your computer. The graphical image on your screen is then rendered using this relatively small data representation of the game world around you. Your computer knows how to render a megathron, for example, without anything but a few stats on that ship's current status.
For the video streams of the tournament broadcasts they have used streaming video, actually sending every pixel of the coverage to every viewer. The growth in the amount of data this type of display requires to be sent FAR exceeds that used to let you play the game.
The solution? CCP needs to devote a little bit of their team's time to developing an in-game tournament viewer of sorts (could be used to view in-game events of all types). The specifics of such an implementation are obviously far too big a topic for my lengthy thread here, but the idea should work.
The main downside to this solution would be a potential impact on the performance of the EVE universe during the tournaments. This, however, should not be a defining constraint as I can think of a few possible solutions off hand.
This method of implementation would most likely reduce the amount of data needed to provide live video footage of events to EVE players by a large factor. And perhaps best of all, this would allow you to view the tournament live, in the full graphics settings and clarity you see when you play the game. |

The video is there w/ the audio coverage on each match. The day 1 and day 2 qualifiers are up. I don't have a problem with a little delay for the video, especially since we get the final live. It seems like a lot of people are saying audio only, when its live audio only with the video delayed about 24hrs or so to get them up on youtube.

I take back my original post complaining about no evetv. This latest posted video to Youtube is great, you can actually see pilot names and ship types, way better then the crappy live stream. I can wait an extra day for this kind of quality and if it saves CCP money, bonus.
