I have just start playing and have my starter ship but got 150k isk and soon LV 3 in Frigate.
Should i buy a ship for near 150k or a cheap ship for maybe 30k and buy guns and stuff for the rest?
Im mostly doing agent missions and im into fighting so im not a miner.
Thanks in advance

Merlin, go with their best frigate until you have decent missile skills for a Kestrel...
you will learn soon that 150k isnt big money... most of us have 40-100 mil lying around.
I myself just spent 30 mil on Frigate weapons for the higher tech more powerful interceptor frigates.

depends on what you want to do with it, kestrals are good for killing stuff, lvl 2 missions etc, but will cost you 130k and small launchers arnt that exspensive, i probibly have some lying around somewhere, only drawback with a kes is that you cant mine in it!
if you want to mine then id get a bantum and then save up for an industrial ship + skill (Amarr Bestower is probibly the best noob industrial since it only needs lvl 1 and has good low slots)

From everything i hear and see I would go for Merlin if you want to fight. Just make sure you have enough skills and isk to put some decent weaponry on it. Same as I am doing but I'm working on getting all learning skills (except charisma) to level 5 before I'm going for fighting. Until that time I fly around with my Bantam, do some mining, pick up some loot, ...
I never said I was healthy |

I think merlins cost way more than 130k, more like 220k :P
So I'd buy a nice lil condor if I was you.

Edited by: Cloista Shadowblade on 30/07/2004 13:28:15 It depends what you want really.
Bantams are the frig-miners for Caldari, and start you off nice and easy - terrible for comabt though - they are dead cheap however.
Kestrels are the missile boats. They can't fit any turrets whatsoever, so if you've trained gunnery skills more than missile at this point, they arent the ones to go for. Very high damage potential for a frigate though. Cost roughly 150k, then maybe another 50k or so to fit properly.
Merlins are the balanced fighters, and my personal favourite. With a 2/2 turret/launcher loadout you can either equip to get in close, or to stay at approx 20km (long range for a frig). They tend to have a litle more survivability than the other base caldari frigates, but are more expensive, about 170-200k depending on location, and again another 50-100k to fit properly. Merlins also have the issue that they seem to be the slowest of the Caldari frigates - atleast one afterburner or mwd is a must IMO (I personally prefer ABs as you dont take the huge hit on shields/cap/sig radius).
Feel free to message me ingame if you have any questions, I've only been playing 3 months or so myself, so starting out is still very fresh in my mind, compared to a lot of people.
Hope that helps. Cloista Shadowblade. CEO of the Eligible Target Corp |

I'll be on all weekend...... down to one merlin right now so can't give ya that.
it's easy to tell when your a new player to eve and not likely an alt from another char.........
and yes there are a good few people on here that will donate to a real new eve char.
A 500k donation from some of us is but 15 minutes worth of game time but to yourself.......can make the difference out of the 1st month you play.

Wration, I'm from the UK, so EU times are great for me. I'm knida skint at the moment, but that is due to having lost yet another Merlin with a nice setup, but being careless - and having just gone out and got my Caracal (Caldari Missile Cruiser). Im sure I will be able to help you out in some ways though.
Feel free to drop me a message anytime. Cloista Shadowblade. CEO of the Eligible Target Corp |
