Just wondering, are these truly going to be Player Owned Structures? or more like Corporation Owned Structures? ie, will someone in a corp, be able to create his own POS for himself or will the corp have to do it? ................. |

Edited by: Zubenelgenubi on 30/07/2004 15:06:14 Given CCP's attitude to freelancers and small corps, I very much doubt anyone who isn't part of a fairly large corp or regional alliance will ever see the inside of a POS.
So they'll probably be [large] corporate-owned structures.
Just a guess

I hope not. I am a freelancer. If I cant put down a player owned structure thats profitable by myself I am going to be one ****ed off gallente.
"Its about the territory not the structure".
Lets assume if 1 person finds a good spot he could sustain his own outpost as long as noone comes and takes it.

Well if u go by the description on the shiva page, they will cost about as much as cruiser to build, but take a lot more to run. SO, in theory, a single player could own one, the problem would be to try and keep it up and running, aswell as defend it.
tbh, i think it will be more for corps/alliances but we will have to wait and see (and tbh i cant bloody wait much longer )

What some people are not recognizing here is they are structures, NOT stations. These will be tiny to actual stations that we use now. Wether or not others can dock with them and use them, I don't know, and neither does anyone else, since CCP has not released that information anywhere. Vice-Admiral

I'm sure that's possible. I imagine it would be like the conquerable stations.

*looks at map.. hmm this system used to be empty, now it has 30 people in it for the past 4 days.. no station is there.. must be a POS!*

anyway, on to the topic, I highly doubt 1 player could, by himself, build, and maintain a POS complex. Maybe a piece here and a bit there. But not a whole complex of POS..er structures.

if you don't wake up, i'll have to stop kissing you. all that flailing has made you sleepy. you rest while i untie you. stay here until they find you. My hand made mannequin. i won't let them get you. they'll know you're mine by the fingerprints on your throat. isn't she lovely? isn't she wonderful? like the *****s that we are, swatting flies from the wounds we design. |

That's exactly why I think there should be POS that shields the system from displaying information on the map, otherwise hiding a POS will simply not work.

*hey look this system doesnt show any map info...wonder why... :P*
The map display will get removed once all the "nay" voters watch their pos get rampaged 3 times a day by pirates and start whining in the forums... ---------------------------

You guys missed the part when they said the location you pick will decide if its "profitable" or not. So in theory you could earn money by placing a structure down. But you can probably only speciliaze in 1 area like defense or maybe a little defense and something else before you start to have to kick in resources to keep it going. UNless you find a really good spot for a good all around outpost that has everything. Or a super defense outpost.
As a 1 man corporation im looking forward to this. If not then Ill say the POS idea sucks and false hopes.

With a few RL friends coming to play EVE soon and join LF-A, i'm looking forward to these structures. One of the things about stations and their defence people seem to forget is that other Corporations / People will probably use your station in some way. And by doing so they will have a vested interest in your station surviving. Thus while you keep the station running, if your patrons are well enough armed, they would probably defend the outpost themselves rather than see it and their investment destroyed.
Thus i'm going to enlist my friends to help me keep such a station running and i'll lower rates for clients who keep it defended against attacks. Hmmmm wonder if m0o, RKK and/or Evolution ever considered station defence as a form of emplyment

If the POS' are going to be announced to the whole world like the conquerable stations were it won't exactly encourage corporations not backed by a good percentage of the server population to build anything out there.
Nerf the map.

they did indeed say a cheap price and will be a freelancer ownable. although a freelancer running a large one will be extremely hard i think, as it should be. and im guessing itll be profitable through the resources it exstracts from the moon. so if u dont have lots of buildigns and a good moon then yes u could probably get money off of it >< but yeah its more of an alliance/corp geared thing. and im sure they said that u can control what ppl do by the ratings (ie make it so only ppl with 5.0 rating towards u be able to dock there. hell maybe u could make 2 dockign stations, one for ur corp, one for eeryone. have said nothign bout u can change the rating for each struc though. think of it as a station in pieces ;p
