The fact is that you have no idea where someone is in your system and that scares you, admit it. If you are out mining with a hostile in the area then use some protection. I doubt very much that you will be bothered, unless they know that they can take your bodyguards out.
while there is the possibility you suggest (that he is flitting about from safe to safe constantly), that is not the issue, and I have no problem with a threat vessel doing so whether they are cloaked or not - it means they are active and involved in their own survival. if the same threat vessel is logged in for 23 hours straight, it most likely is cloaked at a safe with the player afk for a majority of that time, and so NOT involved in his own survival, basically leaving his butt hanging in the ether with nothing but the cloak making him as safe as a baby clone in the station clone bay. somehow I doubt CCP made cloaks to guarantee safety to that extent. |

I fail to see how we have to justify an existing game mechanic. I'm not the one trying to persuade CCP to change something. That justification falls upon those that take that stance. The fact is there are penalties and ways to decloak a cloaked ship. Just because you don't like those methods doesn't mean that they are invalid.
you are not justifying an existing game mechanic. you are trying to justify NOT changing or improving the game mechanics. there is a huge difference. |

Here is a justification for leaving cloaks alone:
You can't do ANYTHING while cloaked, except, in the case of a few ships, warp around. Now, I don't know about you, but that seems like a pretty good counter in itself. You can avoid being killed, but you are also unable to do anything while hidden. The other main justification is for emergency-afk-time in hostile space. If you're out roaming in enemy space, then it is nice for there to be some way for you to be safe for 5 minutes if you need to do something in real life. After all, the enemy you are hunting can do the same to you.
Also, it's REALLY fun to play psychological warfare games with paranoid carebear alliances then hear them cry on the forums. |

Karentaki, i agree with ya on that point. lol also most ppl who warp into a place cloak have had practice doing that. It's hard has hell to do, at first, but later on its nice and simple. also for those cloakers who are afk, who cares, thats there business, in my opinion i think ppl are getting to worked up over nothing here. |

I don't like the idea all that much but ....50k?! That's capital range. Maybe 5k to 10k; still think it's a bad idea.

How about...
A smartbomb type of thing? Sends out a pulse to say, 15km or so. Decloaks anything in that radius? Eh? --- Don't take my ranting personally. I may just be arguing the topic, unless you're saying something stupid, and then I mean every word. "Players don't want Variety. They want THE BEST" |

Edited by: Praetor Novak on 29/01/2009 23:34:25 Actually what would be entirely better is create an anchored (similar to bubbles) cloaking field that we could hide fleets in. This would totally disrupt all of EVE fleet warfare. Then you could allow a module to seek out and potentially disrupt (like a bomb for bombers) these based on skills and module quality - however ship cloaking should continue to be undetectable.

You know...
The more I see all the b!tch!ing and whining about Cloaks vs Anti-Cloaks...
I say just give 'em hell, and damn the consequences.
Since Cloaks make you invisible to "Combat" probes, let them register as a very weak "Exploration" signature. Then after sufficient time and effort probing, with plenty of opportunity for the pilot to realize they're being looked for... You can get on grid with them.
From there... either make a sensor that'll let you triangulate their location and bump them. Or use those smartbomb things I linked before, to reveal them once you're in range.
No one ever said that Cloak = Total Immunity iWin Module
And no one said that you should always be able to rely on a deep bookmark and a high slot to keep you safe. What's the favorite saying among Pirates ?
"The only safe place in Eve is when you're docked at a station"
So fuók 'em. You want to play spy... we'll probe you out, hunt you down, and gank your sorry a$$ into your next medclone. You want to AFK for hours, hoping to harass whiny pathetic players who can't stand seeing an unfamiliar face in Local... see above.
Of course, most of the problem with Cloaks could be easily fixed by making Local a "Recent Speakers" channel, so pathetic paranoid players won't even know they're being stalked. But until CCP wises up to that little tidbit... fuók Cloakers. You wanna sit in your CovOps and stay alive... don't go AFK. |

lol i like to cloak, but i don't like to go afk. I pefer to track my targets for a bit, screw with them and then, call a in the rest of the gang, for some fun. Sure it's dirty, but in null sec it works. though the only ppl that you can really get this with are the carebear players. lol too bad for them, if only they realize how funny it is when they start spamming caps in local and saying how much they hate me. Too me it's funny.
So if ya have a probelm witht he afk cloakers..are you sure that ya know he's there? are you sure he's afk? The best thing ya should do is either run to the station or call for back up. other then that, it's not hard. Most ppl who sit in a belt cloak are waiting for the right target, either a random miner, or an enemy of there corp. or they are just see what it is your doing. All in all, it's all kewl. because this is a game. if ya can't hack it, then just leave. |

Any sort of anti-cloaking pulse is out of the question. It's an instant I-Win button for 0.0 campers. Bubble + a couple of anti-cloakers = dead cloaker. It's damn near hard enough to get past a blob camped gate as is, don't even suggest making it, by the game mechanics, impossible. |
