I play EVE since 2007. I decided myself going to a carrier about 3 months ago, between changing skills with my needs, I am about 40 days of flying a carrier and, as skills allow me (not wallet) a mothership At first I was thinking on flying the Caldari variant of it with Gallente drones. Than I got a domi, to dont stop playing and do some dmg while getting drone skills better. The domi surprised me, doing armor tank really surprised me, I am, right now, based on a 0.0 system and get some close call on the carrier I was looking for, have caldari bs at lvl IV 14 days till lvl V and gallente bs at lvl III (thats 20 days more from the 40 I said before) so with the skills I wont lose too much time. My doubt is the follow, Gallente or Caldari carrier/ms I see that there are more Gallente of this type of vessel than Caldari So I want some opinions on witch one of them. Plz, say your opinion and justify it so I can learn some stuff.

I think that the Chimera is a better tanker than the Thanatos, but the Thanatos has the advantage of shield and armor rep bonuses. Gallente BS 5 is also a better PvP skill than Caldari BS 5. |

1 year old char in a carrier?
no thanks. You're about 60m skillpoints too few for that. |

If specc'd correctly a char can be Cap Capable at about 30mil SP. MS would be more of course...
Then again I never flew a cap ship so my opinion matters not. Ignore me.

At 25mil SP I had jump cal 4. I'm at 42 now and I can fly every minmatar ship sans titans well, and regularly field my carrier.
@OP, remote armor reps are generally more appreciated than shield, due to the nature of EVE combat atm. The Chimera is a fantastic ship, but it's the only shield tanking carrier, and a bit of a blacksheep because of that. Example teamspeak chat: "Oy, you have a carrier? Fantastic. Can you fit capital remote armor? Yea I know it doesn't have a bonus. No? How about large remote armor... Yea, unfit the capital shield RR. No, we don't have any shield reps for you."
I wish it were otherwise. |

ive got 8m sp and im training for a thanatos, ill have 22m by the time im done with my skills and when i go and lose my thanatos i wont come crying to you guys op: if you want to fly a carrier go ahead, just be warry that you wont fly it good for a while and will probably lose a few as to which is better, ive always heard the wyvern is awesome and that the gallente ones aren't too hot just fly what you like |

I rarely use my carrier. I find I use it for travelling and occasionaly home defence.
Whenever we got a large op its always Dread-carrier-BS- and so fort
So ya I use my dread.
but ya i guess if you need a hauler to jump your ship to 0.0 a carrier is good. Otherwise A dread is more usefull |

Chrimera > Thanatos.
6 months ago I chose Archon > Thanatos, its fairly similar. The resist bonus helps your local tank, and spider tanking which will happen in fleets.
You may think you are just 40 days from flying carrier, but you need Jump Drive Op 5, the other jumps skills at 4, and then all the carrier specific skills at 4. Good support skills too.

He said he played since 2007, thats more than 1 year. 60m sp is really not required to fly a carrier. you maybe mixed up titan with carrier 35-40m sp are enough to fly one, if you got the sp in carrier relevant skills.
@topic: i would go for gallente carrier. as someone already said, armor rep is much more prefered in fleets than shield rep. |

Bull**** reason. Thanny is in fact least good in fleets. |

Im gonna have to disagree. I think in a fleet, the carriers are pretty even. A thanny can use both types of RR, and while it doesnt have a bonus to RR amount like the nid, it is assured to be able to rep whatever the carrier is tanking.
However saying a chimera isnt good for fleets is total BS. No matter what type of carrier is being shot at, a chimera can help it, if the ship is armor tanking, the chimeras in fleet will pull back some of its shields, and that is time that the enemy fleet isnt hitting his armor, giving you more time to repair it.
The only reason armor tanking is preferred is because these carrier pilots only fit armor reps, which is pretty moronic. The only ship that should only be fitting remote armor reps is the archon. Any nid/thanny that I see that uses only remote armor reps is a bad setup IMO. |
