I like Sphalerite's point. I have to say I think this is all blown out of proportion, I've done plenty of trading in Eve and never (intentionally) placed orders I couldn't fulfil.
You do realise these huge buy orders that take months to fill prevent other people, particularly new players, from getting a look in on the market? Sure they could outbid you but because all the well priced trade goods sell as fast as they are put on the market it's incredibly hard for a new player to get a foothold on the market.
This change would open up a range of new opportunities for players. If you need to place a big buy order, borrow the money from a loan shark, or pawn your existing assets and buy them back later when you have the capital. That's how the real world works.
This change may well make market prices more dynamic but I very much doubt it'll dent the average price and it will stop a few people hogging the whole market. You're only complaining because this change will spread the wealth.
Good on CCP for making these changes (some form of credit system would be nice though - loan someone money with fixed repayments and if they don't pay up on time they're immediately flagged as a criminal to you and your allies). No signature... yet. |

Quote: At first I was going to say I don't understand why this is, but then I had an "A Ha!" experience
Funnily enough I had exactly the same experience reading your post. I'd not really thought about the market in that way. To be honest though I'm still paranoid about using buy orders as a guide to price because the 'Average Price' warning dialog always seems to give me complete nonsense numbers
I stand by my statement that overall this would be a good change and the introduction of loans and such features would enrich the trading experience rather than detracting from it. No signature... yet. |
